A memória das bibliotecas universitárias, proporcionada por esses documentos históricos evita que o conhecimento gerado na sua rotina seja esquecido e valoriza o empenho de seus profissionais e usuários por educação, ciência e cultura. O objetivo desse artigo é apresentar os resultados obtidos por uma investigação sobre a realidade de preservação de documentos históricos das bibliotecas universitárias públicas no estado do Rio Grande do Sul. A coleta de dados ocorreu em duas etapas, uma baseada em entrevistas presenciais e observação in loco, e outra baseada na análise dos sites das bibliotecas selecionadas. A interpretação dos resultados evidencia que grande parte do patrimônio documental dessas bibliotecas não tem recebido medidas de preservação como documentos históricos, o que coloca em risco a promoção de memórias sobre as bibliotecas universitárias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Documentos relacionados con las actividades centrales de las bibliotecas universitarias que parecen comunes o no oficiales --como campañas de educación de usuarios, catálogos antiguos, manuales desactualizados, entre otros ejemplos- constituyen su patrimonio documental y deben ser conservados para proporcionar memorias sobre él. El trabajo de memoria de las bibliotecas universitarias evita que los conocimientos generados en su rutina sean olvidados y valora el compromiso de sus profesionales y usuarios por la educación, la ciencia y la cultura. El objetivo de este artículo es presentar los resultados obtenidos por una investigación sobre la realidad de la preservación de documentos históricos en bibliotecas universitarias públicas en el estado de Rio Grande do Sul. La recolección de datos se llevó a cabo en dos etapas, una basada en entrevistas cara a cara y observación in situ, y la otra basada en el análisis de los sitios Web de las bibliotecas seleccionadas. La interpretación de los resultados muestra que gran parte del patrimonio documental de estas bibliotecas no ha recibido medidas de preservación como documentos históricos, lo que pone en riesgo la promoción de la memoria sobre las bibliotecas universitarias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Documents related to core activities of university libraries that seem common or unofficial -such as user education campaigns, old catalogs, outdated manuals, among other examples- constitute their documentary heritage and must be preserved in order to provide memories. The memory of university libraries, provided by these historical documents, prevents the knowledge generated in their routine from being forgotten and values the commitment of its professionals and users for education, science, and culture. The aim of this article is to present the results obtained by an investigation into the reality of preserving historical documents in public university libraries in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Data collection took place in two stages, one based on faceto-face interviews and on-site observation, and the other based on the analysis of the websites of the selected libraries. The interpretation of the results shows that a large part of the documentary heritage of these libraries did not receive preservation measures as historical documents, which can weaken the formation of memories about university libraries.]]></p></abstract>
