Los datos empíricos en los que se basa esta investigación se generaron a través de entrevistas semi-estructuradas aplicadas a 20 mujeres estudiantes de dicha licenciatura. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que los principales factores que las motivaron a estudiar Matemáticas son: 1) se dieron cuenta que eran buenas en matemáticas; 2) gusto por las matemáticas; y 3) influencia de sus profesores. Se sugiere que los factores anteriores, entre otros discutidos en este trabajo, promueven la constitución de una identidad sólida como buenas aprendices de matemáticas, la cual favorece la elección de esa carrera universitaria.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: This qualitative research explores the reasons why women students of the bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Universidad Veracruzana choose this course. The empirical data that forms the basis of this research was generated through semi-structured interviews with 20 female students of the degree. The results show that the major factors which motivated them to study mathematics are: 1) they realized that they were good at math; 2) they like math; and 3) influence of their teachers. It is suggested that the above factors, among others discussed in this paper, promote the development of a strong identity as good students of mathematics, which favors the choice of the university degree.]]></p></abstract>
