<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0035-00522023000100022&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0035-00522023000100022&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0035-00522023000100022&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  Introducción:  los pacientes pediátricos con síndrome de intestino corto (SIC) que reciben nutrición parenteral total (NPT) prolongada pueden desarrollar enfermedad mineral ósea por diferentes mecanismos.  Caso clínico:  adolescente femenino de 16 años quien ha recibido apoyo con NPT durante más de un año, resultado de la resección de una tumoración abdominal, así como de una porción amplia del intestino, por lo cual la paciente solamente tenía 5 cm de yeyuno, sin válvula ileocecal ni colon ascendente, y con la mitad de colon transverso. A seis meses de NPT presentó deficiencia de vitamina D (12.9 ng/mL), por lo que se incrementó en la dosis en NPT a 400 UI. Después de cinco meses, los valores de vitamina D se mantenían bajos (21.9 ng/dL), por la que se agregó colecalciferol, llegando a niveles normales. Durante este periodo se determinó que la densidad mineral ósea era baja, pero mejoró con la suplementación de vitamina D.  Conclusiones:  los datos de esta paciente indican la necesidad de mantener un seguimiento de la salud ósea en los pacientes con SIC dependientes de NPT prolongada.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  pediatric short bowel syndrome (SBS) patients receiving prolonged total parenteral nutrition (TPN) may develop bone mineral disease by different mechanisms.  Case report: 16-year-old female adolescent who has received TPN support for more than a year, after resection of both an abdominal tumor and a large portion of intestine, for which the residual intestine was 5 cm of jejunum, without valve ileocecal or ascending colon and half of transverse colon. Six months after TPN, she presented vitamin D deficiency (12.9 ng/mL), so the dose was increased to 400 IU in TPN. After five months, vitamin D values remained low (21.9 ng/dL), for which cholecalciferol was added, reaching normal levels. During this period, it was found that bone mineral density was low, but it improved with vitamin D supplementation.  Conclusions:  the data from this clinical case indicate the need to monitoring of bone health in patients with SBS dependent on prolonged TPN.]]></p></abstract>
