Antecedentes:  El cultivo de hongos comestibles, en particular de setas (Pleurotus spp.), ofrece una alternativa económica y alimentaria a las comunidades campesinas de zonas rurales; sin embargo, el acceso a la semilla y la capacitación son limitantes.  Objetivo:  Capacitar un grupo de mujeres organizadas sobre los procesos rústicos de producción de setas, asesorar el establecimiento de un espacio para la producción en la localidad, acompañar durante el proceso de fructificación y documentar la producción y comercialización de los hongos.  Materiales y método:  Se capacitó a un grupo de mujeres y se les aprovisionó con lotes de 50 paquetes de 10 kg de sustrato activado de Pleurotus ostreatus.  Resultados y discusión:  En total se obtuvieron 150 kg de hongos frescos, alcanzando una eficiencia biológica de 111.11 %, una tasa de producción de 0.92 y un rendimiento del 30 % por paquete. Por las condiciones de cultivo, se observó una producción diferencial entre los paquetes. Se discuten los principales obstáculos técnicos y sociales para alcanzar el éxito en un emprendimiento rural de setas bajo el modelo planteado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract.  Background:  The cultivation of edible mushrooms, specifically oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.), offers an economic and nutritional alternative to peasant communities in rural areas, however, access to spawn and training are the primary limitations.  Objective:  Train a group of organized women on the rustic processes of mushroom production, advise on the establishment of a space for production in the town, accompany them during the fruiting process and document the production and marketing of mushrooms.  Materials and method:  A group of women was trained and supplied with batches of 50 packages of 10 kg of straw inoculated with Pleurotus ostreatus.  Results and conclusions:  A total of 150 kg of fresh mushrooms were harvested, equivalent to a biological efficiency of 111.11 %, a production rate of 0.92, and a yield of 30 % per package. Due to the cultivation conditions, a differential production was observed between the packages. The main technical and social obstacles to achieving success in a rural mushroom venture under the proposed model are discussed.]]></p></abstract>
