El requerimiento calórico depende de las características individuales de cada paciente como la patología, sedación, entre otras. A través del tiempo, se han desarrollado varias técnicas para determinar este requerimiento, como el calculado a partir del MVCO2, parámetro arrojado por el ventilador mecánico, hasta el uso de calorimetría indirecta de manera continua, siendo esta última el estándar de oro para tal fin.  Objetivo:  Comparar la medición del requerimiento energético basal obtenido por calorimetría indirecta en pacientes con soporte ventilatorio invasivo y el requerimiento energético calculado a partir de MVCO2 medido con ventilador Drager en pacientes con soporte ventilatorio invasivo.  Material y métodos:  Estudio prospectivo transversal desarrollado en la Unidad de Terapia Intensiva del Centro Médico Dalinde. Incluyó a pacientes con soporte ventilatorio avanzado de la vía aérea que contaron con el Software de calorimetría indirecta y apoyo de ventilación dado por ventilador Drager con medición de MVCO2, con el cual se realizó el cálculo de requerimiento calórico.  Resultados:  El requerimiento energético dado por MVCO2 fue 141.35 ± 32 y por calorimetría indirecta fue 141.67 ± 26.5. Se realizó un análisis de diferencia de medias para ambos métodos y se encontró que no hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p = 0.907 y p = 0.091, respectivamente).  Conclusión:  Existe una relación entre los datos del cálculo del requerimiento energético por calorimetría indirecta y el estimado a partir de la producción de MVCO2 por el ventilador Draguer. Por lo tanto, el cálculo del requerimiento energético por medición de MVCO2 dado por ventilador mecánico es una alternativa adecuada en el paciente crítico hospitalizado en unidades que no cuenten con calorimetría indirecta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  Monitoring critically ill patients requires optimal monitoring of energy requirements to determine the ideal nutritional intake according to the clinical condition, support early improvement, and reduce complications. Caloric requirements depend on the individual characteristics of each patient, such as pathology, and sedation, among others. Over time, several techniques have been developed to determine this requirement, such as the one calculated from MVCO2, a parameter provided by the mechanical ventilator, to continuous indirect calorimetry, the latter being the gold standard for this purpose.  Objective:  To compare the measurement of basal energy requirement obtained by indirect calorimetry in patients with invasive ventilatory support and the energy requirement calculated from MVCO2 measured with a Drager ventilator in patients with invasive ventilatory support.  Material and methods:  A prospective cross-sectional study was developed in the Intensive Care Unit of the Dalinde Medical Center. It included patients with advanced airway support who had indirect calorimetry software and ventilation support provided by a Drager ventilator with MVCO2 measurement, with which the caloric requirement calculation was performed.  Results:  The energy requirement calculated by MVCO2 was 141.35 ± 32, and given by indirect calorimetry was 141.67 ± 26.5. A difference of means analysis was performed for both methods and did not find statistically significant differences (p-value of 0.907 and p-value of 0.091).  Conclusion:  There is a percentage relationship between the data from energy requirement calculated by indirect calorimetry and calculated from the production of MVCO2 by the Draguer ventilator. Therefore, calculating the caloric requirement by measuring MVCO2 given by a mechanical ventilator is an adequate alternative for critically ill patients hospitalized in units that do not have indirect calorimetry.]]></p></abstract>

A necessidade calórica depende das características individuais de cada paciente, como patologia, sedação, entre outras. Ao longo do tempo, várias técnicas foram desenvolvidas para determinar esse requisito, como a calculada a partir da MVCO2, um parâmetro fornecido pelo ventilador mecânico, até o uso da calorimetria indireta contínua, sendo esta última o padrão ouro para essa finalidade.  Objetivo:  Comparar a medição da necessidade de energia basal obtida por calorimetria indireta em pacientes com suporte ventilatório invasivo e a necessidade de energia calculada a partir da MVCO2 medida pelo ventilador Drager em pacientes com suporte ventilatório invasivo. Materiais e métodos: estudo prospectivo de corte transversal realizado na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva do Centro Médico Dalinde. Incluiu pacientes com suporte ventilatório avançado das vias aéreas que tinham o software de calorimetria indireta e suporte ventilatório fornecido pelo ventilador Drager com medição de MVCO2, com o qual foi realizado o cálculo da necessidade calórica.  Resultados:  A necessidade energética fornecida pela MVCO2 foi de 141.35 (DP 32) e pela calorimetria indireta foi de 141.67 (DP 26.5). Foi realizada uma análise de diferença média para ambos os métodos e constatou-se que não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p-valor 0.907 e p-valor 0.091, respectivamente).  Conclusão:  Existe uma relação entre os dados do cálculo da necessidade de energética por calorimetria indireta e os dados calculados a partir da produção de MVCO2 pelo ventilador Draguer.
