Por ello, en la actualidad se buscan nuevas formas de administración y liberación de fármacos utilizados en el combate de ciertas enfermedades. La implementación y desarrollo de nanomateriales para actuar como trasportadores y dosificadores se ha convertido en una línea de investigación a nivel mundial. En este contexto, se han probado diversos tipos de materiales como son: las nanopartículas poliméricas, los polímeros conjugados, los liposomas, las micelas, las dendritas, los nanotubos de carbono y las nanoesferas o nanocajas (poliméricas o metálicas), que en ocasiones, no son los mejores candidatos para trasportar un fármaco de manera eficiente y segura. En este trabajo se pone en evidencia la necesidad de desarrollar nuevos materiales, con características especificas, como las redes metal orgánicas, MOF por sus siglas en inglés (metal organic framework). Las MOF constituyen un grupo de materiales cuyas propiedades pueden ser reguladas según se requiera en cada aplicación. Desde el punto de vista estructural, el diseño de las MOF depende del centro metálico y el ligando orgánico que las constituyen, los cuales pueden aportar características fisicoquímicas acordes al fármaco que se desee encapsular, para luego ser liberado en el organismo. Estos materiales pueden ser sintetizados de manera sencilla a un bajo costo; además, sus propiedades pueden modularse desde la síntesis o bien pueden funcionalizarse, todas estas características constituyen ventajas que podrían superar a los materiales existentes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Human health is constantly the subject of new threats, demanding for efficient and fastacting drugs. Nowadays, new ways for delivering and dosing drugs are under investigation, and nanomaterials have become a major research field. Several materials have been studied for drug transportation and dosage: polymer nanoparticles, conjugated polymers, liposomes, micelles, dendrites, carbon nanotubes, gold nanoparticles or nanocages of different elements. However, in many cases, these materials have not been as efficient as expected. In this work we make evident the need for developing new materials with specific properties, such as the MOFs (metal organic frameworks). The MOF are a group of materials with properties that can be tailored to suit specific applications. MOF design involves a metal center and an organic ligand, which provide the required physicochemical properties, depending on the drug to be encapsulated, for latter release, in the organism. MOF synthesis can be simple and low-cost; desired properties can be introduced during the synthesis procedure, or after it, by functionalization. Because of these advantages, MOF may work better than other materials.]]></p></abstract>
