Se utilizaron ocho carneros cruza de Pelibuey con Black Belly, los cuales, se dividieron en dos grupos. El grupo de carneros jóvenes menores de 12 meses con peso vivo inicial de 41.6 ± 3.25 kg, y el grupo de carneros maduros, entre 24 y 36 meses de edad, y peso vivo inicial de 54.3 ± 8.73 kg, las variables que se evaluaron fueron volumen de eyaculado, movilidad masal, circunferencia escrotal, porcentaje de espermatozoides vivos, tiempo de reacción a la primera monta y tiempo de latencia. Los carneros maduros presentan diferencia en las características seminales entre grupo y por evento consecutivo (P &lt; 0.05). En los días de extracción, no hubo diferencias (P &#707; 0.05) en el volumen y porcentaje de espermatozoides vivos entre grupos. Los carneros maduros mostraron un menor tiempo de latencia con diferencias entre grupo y por evento consecutivo (P &lt; 0.05). En los diferentes días de extracción de eyaculado los carneros maduros mantuvieron tiempos de latencia de manera consistente. Los carneros sexualmente maduros presentaron una mayor eficiencia reproductiva en comparación con los carneros jóvenes. La edad del carnero es un factor influye en las características seminales y en la conducta sexual.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The study's objective was to quantify the changes in the ejaculate characteristics of rams over three successive mounts, as well as the latency time between mounts. Eight crossbred rams of Pelibuey and Black Belly were used, which were divided into two groups. The group of young rams under 12 months old with an initial live weight of 41.6 ± 3.25 kg, and the group of mature rams, between 24 and 36 months old, and initial live weight of 54.3 ± 8.73 kilograms. The evaluated variables included ejaculate volume, mass motility, scrotal circumference, percentage of live spermatozoa, reaction time to the first mount, and latency time. Mature rams showed differences in seminal characteristics between groups and consecutive events (P &lt; 0.05). On extraction days, there were no differences (P &gt; 0.05) in volume and percentage of live spermatozoa between groups. Mature rams showed shorter latency times with differences between groups and consecutive events (P &lt; 0.05). On different ejaculate extraction days, mature rams maintained consistent latency times. Sexually mature rams exhibited higher reproductive efficiency compared to young rams. Ram age is a factor that influences seminal characteristics and sexual behavior.]]></p></abstract>
