El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la composición química de hojas de G. arborea en tres estados de madurez: hojas jóvenes (HJ), adultas (HA) y maduras (HM), para determinar su potencial como forraje. Se evaluó el contenido de Proteína Cruda (PC), Extracto Etéreo (EE) y Cenizas (Cen), así como el de Fibra Detergente Neutro (FDN), Fibra Detergente Ácido (FDA), Lignina (Lig), Celulosa (Cel) y Hemicelulosa (Hem) mediante un diseño experimental completamente al azar y la comparación de medias mediante la prueba de Tukey (&#945; = 0.05). Las HA presentaron el mayor contenido de PC (P &lt; 0.05) en comparación con las HJ y HM las cuales presentaron valores por debajo del 15%. Las HA tuvieron mayor (P &lt; 0.05) contenido de Cen y menor de EE (9.30 y 1.67%, respectivamente). FDN y FDA fue mayor (P &lt; 0.05) en HM (42.09 y 31.38%, respectivamente) y más bajo (P &lt; 0.05) en HA (34.66 y 24.99%, respectivamente), las HJ y HM mostraron alto (P &lt; 0.05) contenido de Lig (17 y 18%, respectivamente). Para Cel y Hem no hubo diferencia estadística entre tratamientos. Se concluye que las hojas de G. arborea entre los 40 y 60 días presentan valores adecuados de proteína, por lo que constituyen un forraje de buena calidad nutritiva para el ganado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Gmelina arborea Roxb. leaves are a food alternative in livestock production systems; however, the maturity state of the leaves and their nutritional quality are unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition of G. arborea leaves at three maturity stages: young leaves (YL), adult leaves (AL), and mature leaves (ML), to determine their potential as forage. The content of Crude Protein (CP), Ether Extract (EE), and Ash (Ash), as well as Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Lignin (Lig), Cellulose (Cel), and Hemicellulose (Hem), were evaluated using a completely randomized experimental design and mean comparison using Tukey's test (&#945; = 0.05). AL had the highest CP content (P &lt; 0.05) compared to YL and ML, which had values below 15%. AL had higher (P &lt; 0.05) Ash content and lower EE (9.30% and 1.67%, respectively). NDF and ADF were higher (P &lt; 0.05) in ML (42.09 and 31.38%, respectively) and lower (P &lt; 0.05) in AL (34.66 and 24.99%, respectively). YL and ML showed higher (P &lt; 0.05) Lig content (17 and 18%, respectively). There was no statistical difference in Cel and Hem between treatments.
