Existen pocos estudios que han analizado la presencia de MP en aguas subterráneas. El acuífero kárstico de la península de Yucatán (AKPY) es la principal fuente de abastecimiento de agua de la región. Por lo cual, el objetivo del estudio fue determinar la presencia de MP en AKPY. Se tomaron muestras de agua de cenotes y pozos, se filtraron y el material retenido en el filtro se observó en un microscopio estereoscópico para identificar y clasificar los MP. Las formas de MP observadas fueron las fibras (94%) y el color más abundante fue blanco (51%). La concentración máxima fue de 936 partículas L-1 y la mínima de 10 partículas L-1. Se encontró presencia de MP en todas las muestras de agua subterránea, por lo que es imprescindible determinar las fuentes para mitigar su presencia en AKPY.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Microplastics (PM) pollution affects terrestrial, aquatic and aerial ecosystems. There are few studies that have analyzed the presence of PM in groundwater. The Yucatan Peninsula Karst Aquifer (AKPY) is the region&#8217;s main source of water supply. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the presence of MP in AKPY. Water samples were taken from cenotes and wells, filtered and the material retained in the filter was observed under a stereoscopic microscope to identify and classify PM. The PM forms observed were fibers (94%) and the most abundant color was white (51%). The maximum concentration was 936 particles L-1 and the minimum 10 particles L-1. PM was found in all groundwater samples, so determining sources is critical to mitigating its presence in AKPY.]]></p></abstract>
