Estos sistemas dieron lugar a actividad volcánica principalmente intermedia a ácida en el NW de México (por ejemplo, la provincia ignimbrítica de la Sierra Madre Occidental). Sin embargo, el análisis de una base de datos geoquímicos (elementos mayores y traza) para vulcanismo félsico (SiO2 ajustado, x &#8805; 62 %) expuesto en el estado de Chihuahua durante el periodo del Eoceno tardío-Oligoceno ha revelado la existencia de litologías con una afinidad a ambientes de extensión, que representan el mayor porcentaje (68 %) de las muestras obtenidas en esta base de datos. Este vulcanismo podría representar una continuación de la actividad asociada al rift del Río Grande del SW de EUA.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The western Mexican margin has been characterized by the episodic installation of subduction systems, such as in the late Cretaceous-Cenozoic time. These systems gave place to mainly intermediate to acidic volcanic activity in NW Mexico (e.g., the Sierra Madre Occidental ignimbrite province). However, the analysis of a geochemical database (major and trace elements) for felsic volcanism (adjusted SiO2, x &#8805; 62%) exposed in the state of Chihuahua during the late Eocene-Oligocene period has revealed the existence of lithologies with an affinity to extensional environments that account for the largest percentage (68 %) of the obtained samples in this database. This volcanism could represent a continuation of the activity associated with the Rio Grande rift of the SW in the USA.]]></p></abstract>
