Objetivo: Analizar la percepción de los tutores de ciclos básicos del Programa Institucional de Tutorías sobre las actividades que realizan con sus tutorados y si contribuyen al logro del desarrollo y crecimiento personal del alumno, competencia 8 del Plan de Estudios 2010 de la Facultad de Medicina, UNAM.  Método:  Se utilizó la metodología cualitativa; las categorías analizadas fueron la formación del tutor, la figura del tutor y la tutoría para el «desarrollo y crecimiento personal».  Resultados: El análisis de las entrevistas indica que el tutor debe tener una formación dentro del campo de las ciencias de la salud y se le identifica como un orientador, facilitador y acompañante para el alumno; de aquí surge la necesidad de realizar una selección de tutores que cumplan con el perfil del Programa Institucional de Tutorías. En cuanto a las actividades de la tutoría que inciden en el crecimiento personal, deben ser estandarizadas y se requiere de una capacitación específica. La escucha activa del tutor se percibió como una herramienta básica para la detección de las necesidades del alumno que requieren ser atendidas.  Conclusiones: Es necesario el apoyo institucional para que los tutores/profesores y alumnos conozcan de manera clara sus funciones y alcances dentro del Plan de Estudios 2010. Este fortalecimiento promovería en el alumno la adquisición de competencias para el ejercicio de la Medicina y en particular, para el abordaje de actividades que, a través del apoyo de tutoría del Programa Institucional de Tutorías, fortalezcan su desarrollo y crecimiento personal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction: Interaction between tutor and students leads to the students being aware of the progress of their potentialities, which influences their development and growth.  Objective: To analyse the perception of Tutors taking part in the basic cycles of the Tutor Institutional Program on their tutorial activities, in order to comply with Competence number 8 of the 2010 Study Plan of the Faculty of Medicine, Autonomous University of UNAM.  Method: Qualitative methodology was used to analyse the following categories: tutor training, the role of the tutor, and tutoring for &#8220;Personal development and growth&#8221;.  Results: It was concluded that tutors must have training within the health care field. Their role was identified as a counsellor and facilitator, a guide, or companion for students, and for this reason there is the need to choose tutors that meet the Tutor Institutional Program competence. Tutorial activities have an influence on personal growth, and need specific training that must be standardised. Listening skill was perceived as a basic tool to detect the student needs that require attention.  Conclusions: Institutional support is essential for the tutors/teachers and students to know their functions and scope within the 2010 Study Plan. This strengthening could encourage the acquiring of student in order to practice Medicine and, in particular, for the approach to activities that, through the tutoring support of Tutor Institutional Program, may strengthen their personal development and growth.]]></p></abstract>
