En personas con vulnerabilidad biopsicosocial a desarrollar trastorno de estrés agudo y postraumático se presenta una elevada actividad simpática. Una medida no invasiva para evaluar el tono simpático es la temperatura nasal. Estudios recientes sugieren que en personas con estrés postraumático un estresor induce un prolongado descenso térmico nasal; mientras que la estimulación térmica no nociva puede mejorar el estado anímico. El presente estudio propone un proceso de termorregulación afectiva: el decremento térmico nasal durante una tarea de estrés social agudo y el incremento térmico nasal durante la relajación en estudiantes universitarios expuestos al sismo del 19-S mientras sostuvieron en manos un estímulo térmico no nocivo. Se utilizó un diseño cuasiexperimental de medidas repetidas de temperatura nasal, mediante un sensor infrarrojo, en 21 estudiantes, 20 días después del 19S. También se evaluó, mediante escalas psicométricas, el nivel de ansiedad, depresión, estrés postraumático, alexitimia, apoyo social, y percepción de estrés. Los resultados indicaron que la temperatura nasal disminuyó con el estresor (p&lt;0.001); el 38% del grupo incrementó su temperatura (p&lt;0.05) durante la relajación, mientras que el 62% del grupo no revirtió el descenso térmico (p&gt;0.05). Al analizar las diferencias psicosociales, el estrés percibido fue menor en quienes incrementaron su temperatura nasal (p&lt;0.05). El nivel de estrés reveló una relación moderada directa con el puntaje de ansiedad, depresión y alexitimia; y una relación inversa moderada con el apoyo social. La termorregulación puede considerarse como un biomarcador de la capacidad de regulación autonómica afectiva.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The exposure to the earthquake of September 19 (19-S) 2017 in Mexico City was perceived as a stressor. In people with a biopsychosocial vulnerability to developing acute and post-traumatic stress disorder, high sympathetic activity occurs. A non-invasive measure to assess sympathetic tone is nasal temperature. Recent studies suggest that in people with post-traumatic stress a stressor induces a prolonged nasal thermal drop, while non-harmful thermal stimulation can improve mood. The present study proposes an affective thermoregulation process: the nasal thermal decrease during an acute social stress task and the nasal thermal increase during relaxation in university students exposed to the 19-S earthquake while holding a non-harmful thermal stimulus in their hands. A quasi-experimental repeated measures design was used to evaluate affective thermoregulation in 21 students, 20 days after 19-S. The level of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, alexithymia, social support, and perception of stress was also evaluated. The results indicated that the nasal temperature decreased with the stressor (p &lt;0.001); 38% of the group increased their temperature (p &lt;0.05) during relaxation, while 62% of the group did not reverse the thermal drop (p&gt; 0.05). When analyzing the psychosocial differences, the perceived stress was lower in those who increased their nasal temperature (p &lt;0.05). The stress level revealed a direct relationship between the anxiety, depression, and alexithymia score, and an inverse relationship with social support. Thermoregulation can be considered as a biomarker of emotional regulation capacity.]]></p></abstract>
