En especies con domesticación incipiente, la variación en la intensidad de selección genera una diferenciación entre sus poblaciones que permite analizar estos cambios.  Pregunta: ¿Cómo son los cambios entre rasgos seleccionados y correlacionados en poblaciones con diferente forma de manejo de A. cristata?  Especie de estudio: Anoda cristata es una especie con domesticación incipiente, aprovechada como quelite en la región centro-sur de México.  Sitio y años de estudio: Región Montaña de Guerrero entre 2008 y 2009.  Métodos:  Se estableció un jardín común con plantas de tres poblaciones: arvense fomentada, arvense agreste y ruderal. Se realizaron cuatro censos para registrar cambios en los rasgos seleccionados y correlacionados.  Resultados:  La mayoría de las correlaciones fenotípicas entre rasgos a nivel de especie fueron significativas. Para las poblaciones arvenses existen trade-offs entre área foliar-densidad de tricomas y reproducción. Las estructuras sexuales reproductivas aparecieron primero en la población ruderal. La especie muestra una tendencia de resistencia a la herbivoría a través de la cantidad de tricomas. La población arvense agreste tiene una estrategia de tolerancia ante la defoliación. El análisis bromatológico indica que existe variación en la composición nutrimental.  Conclusión: Los resultados sugieren que la intensidad de selección ha generado divergencia entre poblaciones. Las correlaciones y los síndromes de domesticación observados parecen estar asociados con compromisos de asignación de recursos, a través de las diferentes formas de manejo e intensidades de selección que ejerce la gente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  Human selection favors traits of interest, but also implies changes in other correlated traits. In species with incipient domestication, variation in selection intensity generates differentiation between populations that allows to analyze these changes.  Questions:  How are the changes between selected and correlated traits within populations with different plant management practices in A. cristata?  Studied species: Anoda cristata is an incipient domesticated species, people in Mexican central-south region often use it as a &#8220;quelite&#8221;.  Study site and dates:  The study was carried out in the Región Montaña de Guerrero in 2008 and 2009.  Methods:  In a common garden experiment, individuals of three populations: promoted, agrestal, and ruderal, were planted. Four censuses were made to count and record the changes in selected and correlated traits.  Results:  Most of the phenotypic correlations between selected and correlated traits were significant at the species level. In promoted and agrestal populations, trade-offs between leaf area-trichome density and reproduction were recorded. Reproductive structures always appeared first in ruderal population. The species shows a tendency to resistance through the trichome density. Agrestal population tends towards a tolerant strategy probably related with human defoliation. Qualitative bromatological results indicate that there is variation in the nutritional composition among populations.  Conclusions:  The results suggest that selection intensity has generated divergence between promoted-agrestal and ruderal populations. The correlations effects and observed domestication syndromes seems to be associated with resource allocation trade-offs through different plant management practices and selection intensities that people exert on the species.]]></p></abstract>
