Para ello, se utilizaron 200 pollitos de un día de nacidos, alimentados con alimento comercial con LT en dosis de 0, 5, 10 y 15 g kg-1 de alimento. La evaluación productiva tuvo una duración de siete semanas, en la cual se registró el peso vivo y el consumo de alimento. Al término, los animales se sacrificaron, se recolectó sangre y se registró el peso del buche, molleja, ciegos y duodeno. Los pollos que consumieron alimento con 5 y 10 g LT mostraron mejoría (P&lt;0.05) en la ganancia de peso y la conversión alimenticia y una reducción (P&lt;0.05) en las concentraciones séricas de alanina amino transferasa, fosfatasa alcalina, y aspartato amino transferasa en comparación con pollos que no consumieron LT. El peso de los órganos digestivos no fue afectado por LT y no se observaron lesiones macroscópicas aparentes. La dosis de LT que tuvo mayor efecto benéfico en las variables productivas fue 10 g kg-1. Por lo anterior, se concluye que la adición de 10 g de hojas de LT por kilo de alimento mejora la respuesta productiva en pollos de engorda, posiblemente como respuesta a que el ácido nordihydroguaiaretico reduce las enzimas hepáticas ejerciendo un efecto hepatoprotector.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The effect of adding the diet with dried and ground leaves of Larrea tridentata (LT) as a natural feed additive was evaluated in broilers on productive development, weight and lesions of digestive organs, and serum concentration of liver enzymes. To do this, 200 one-day-old chicks were used and fed with commercial feed with LT in doses of 0, 5, 10, and 15 g kg-1 of feed. The productive evaluation lasted seven weeks and recorded live weight and feed intake. At the end, the animals were slaughtered, blood was collected, and the weight of the crop, gizzard, cecum, and duodenum was recorded. Broilers that consumed feed with 5 and 10 g LT showed improvement (P&lt;0.05) in weight gain and feed conversion and a reduction (P&lt;0.05) in serum concentrations of alanine amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and aspartate amino transferase compared to broilers that did not consume LT. The weight of the digestive organs was not affected by LT and no apparent macroscopic lesions were observed. The LT dose that had the greatest beneficial effect on the productive variables was 10 g kg-1. Therefore, it is concluded that adding 10 g of LT leaves per kilogram of feed improves the productive response in broilers, possibly as a response to the fact that nordihydroguaiaretic acid reduces liver enzymes, exerting a hepatoprotective effect.]]></p></abstract>
