<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-09342025000900006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-09342025000900006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-09342025000900006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El Valle del Mezquital, en el estado de Hidalgo, ha utilizado históricamente aguas residuales provenientes de la Ciudad de México para el riego agrícola, lo que ha favorecido la producción local, pero también ha generado riesgos ambientales y a la salud por la presencia de metales pesados con capacidad de bioacumulación. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar los niveles de plomo y cadmio en muestras de aguas residuales, naturales y potables de siete municipios de la región. Las determinaciones se realizaron mediante espectrofotometría de absorción atómica por flama, conforme a la norma NMX-AA-051-SCFI-2001. Los resultados mostraron que las aguas residuales superaron los límites permisibles en un 26% para Pb y 30% para cadmio. En aguas naturales y potables, el exceso fue del 70% y 100%, respectivamente, según la NOM-127-SSA1-2021 y la NOM-001-SEMARNAT-2021. Estos hallazgos evidencian la necesidad de establecer un monitoreo continuo y especializado de metales pesados en el agua, con el fin de proteger la salud pública y promover un uso más seguro del recurso hídrico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Mezquital Valley, in the state of Hidalgo, has historically used wastewater from Mexico City for agricultural irrigation, which has favored local production, but has also generated environmental and health risks due to the presence of heavy metals with bioaccumulation capacity. The purpose of this research was to determine the levels of lead and cadmium in samples of wastewater, natural water, and drinking water from seven municipalities in the region. The determinations were made by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry, following the NMX-AA-051-SCFI-2001 standard. The results showed that wastewater exceeded the permissible limits by 26% for Pb and 30% for cadmium. In natural water and drinking water, the excess was 70% and 100%, respectively, according to NOM-127-SSA1-2021 and NOM-001-SEMARNAT-2021. These findings highlight the need to establish continuous and specialized monitoring of heavy metals in water, in order to protect public health and promote safer use of water resources.]]></p></abstract>
