Una estrategia para subsanar la reducida productividad de maíz en la PY es generar, evaluar y difundir el uso de híbridos y variedades que se adapten a diversos ambientes de producción, se identifican los que presenten un mejor rendimiento de grano y que este sea predecible, así como su posible interdependencia con variables agronómicas. Los experimentos se establecieron en temporal, en cinco localidades de la PY, para evaluar nueve genotipos comerciales de maíz, seis híbridos y tres variedades; en bloques completos al azar con tres repeticiones. Se cuantificó el rendimiento de grano, altura de planta y mazorca, diámetro, longitud y número de granos por mazorca. Con la finalidad de identificar los genotipos más sobresalientes y su interacción con el ambiente (estabilidad y adaptabilidad), se realizaron análisis de varianza combinados través de localidades, prueba de medias, análisis de componentes principales, de interacción genotipo-ambiente y de sendero. El híbrido H-520 presentó el mayor rendimiento tanto en el ambiente favorable (Quetzalcóatl), como desfavorable (Micaela) ambas en Campeche y fue el de mayor estabilidad; H-391 fue la mejor opción para rendimiento de grano en San Felipe II, Yucatán y YZ-1 en El Cafetalito y Chetumal, Quintana Roo. La altura de planta tuvo un efecto directo y la longitud de mazorca indirecto, ambas fueron las variables que mayor impacto presentaron sobre el rendimiento. Así a menor altura de planta, mayor rendimiento y longitud de mazorca.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Yucatán Peninsula presents high temperatures and soils where corn (Zea mays L.) crops have a yield of 2.4 to 3.2 t ha-1 under rainfed conditions. One strategy to correct the reduced productivity of corn in the YP is to generate, evaluate, and disseminate the use of hybrids and varieties that adapt to various production environments, identify those that present a superior and predictable grain yield, as well as the possible interdependence of yield with agronomic variables. The experiments were established under rainfed conditions in five locations of the YP to evaluate nine commercial corn genotypes -six hybrids and three varieties- in random complete blocks with three replications. Grain yield, plant and ear height, diameter, length and number of grains per ear were quantified. To identify the most outstanding genotypes and their interaction with the environment (stability and adaptability), the following was performed: combined analysis of variance across localities, test of means, principal component analysis, environment-genotype interaction analysis and path analysis. The H-520 hybrid presented the highest yield in both the favorable (Quetzalcóatl) and unfavorable (Micaela) environments, both in Campeche, and was the most stable; H-391 was the best choice for grain yield in San Felipe II, Yucatán, and YZ-1 in Cafetalito and Chetumal, Quintana Roo. Plant height had a direct effect, and ear length had an indirect effect; both were the variables that had the biggest impact on yield. Thus, the lower the plant height, the higher the yield and the longer the ear.]]></p></abstract>
