Debido a su gran aplicación y a la creciente necesidad de obtener materiales con propiedades mejoradas se adicionan nanopartículas (Nps) como agente antimicrobiano o incluso para la inhibición de biopelícula en las superficies orales.  Objetivo:  comparar las propiedades antimicrobianas de los compositos de PMMA/Nps, en el campo odontológico y así ayudar a la prevención de las patologías estomatológicas.  Material y métodos:  se realizó una revisión sistemática en distintas bases de datos (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Medline y CONRICyT) para analizar las propiedades antimicrobianas del PMMA con Nps, fueron seleccionados con base en criterios de inclusión. La revisión se llevó a cabo de acuerdo con el protocolo PRISMA.  Resultados:  se obtuvo que las Nps de dióxido de titanio (NpsTiO2) demuestran ser las más estudiadas sobre más variedad de microorganismos. Por el contrario, las nanopartículas de plata (NpsAg) mostraron mayor porcentaje de inhibición bacteriana. Durante el desarrollo de la revisión se comprobó el efecto antimicrobiano ante los microorganismos más comunes en cavidad oral. El microorganismo como objeto de estudio más presente fue el Streptococcus mutans y Candida albicans.  Conclusiones:  todas las Nps adicionadas al PMMA, ya sea con grafeno o de manera individual tienen un efecto antimicrobiano que, durante los últimos años, han sido una constante debido a las ventajas que brindan.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is used in dentistry due to its mechanical, physical and aesthetic characteristics. Thanks to its wide application and increasing need to obtain materials with improved properties, nanoparticles (Nps) are added as an antimicrobial agent or even for biofilm inhibition on oral surfaces.  Objective:  To compare the antimicrobial properties of PMMA/Nps composites in the dental field and thus aid in the prevention of stomatological pathologies.  Material and methods:  A systematic review was conducted out in different databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Medline and CONRICyT) to analyse the antimicrobial properties of PMMA with Nps, selected based on inclusion criteria. The review was carried out according to the PRISMA protocol.  Results:  Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (NpsTiO2) showed to be the most studied on a variety of microorganisms. In contrast, silver nanoparticles (NpsAg), showed a higher percentage of bacterial inhibition. During the development of the review, the antimicrobial effect was verified against the most common microorganisms in the oral cavity. The most common microorganisms studied were Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans.  Conclusions:  All Nps added to PMMA, either with graphene or individually, have an antimicrobial effect that which has been a constant in recent years due to the advantages they provide.]]></p></abstract>
