La tomografía computarizada cone-beam es una técnica predecible para ubicarlos.  Objetivo: Identificar la prevalencia y localización de la arteria alveolar superior posterior (AAPS) con respecto a la cresta alveolar, utilizando la clasificación internacional según Ella en la población adulta peruana que acudan a un centro de diagnóstico por imágenes, reconocido para la atención médica en la región central peruana.  Material y métodos: Fueron estudiadas 240 tomografías de pacientes edéntulos parciales superiores unilaterales, que fueron referidos para estudio tomográficos para colocación de implantes dentales. La localización de la AAPS fue visualizada en el corte transversal de 0.5 mm de grosor del sector edéntulo y fue clasificado según la distancia con respecto a la cresta alveolar en tres grados de acuerdo con la clasificación de Ella.  Resultados: Presentó mayor prevalencia el grado 3 en la localización de arteria alveolar superior posterior y que tenían altura del segmento maxilar subantral grado 4 registrándose en 99.2% del total.  Conclusiones: Se encontró el mayor grado de localización de la arteria según la clasificación internacional de Ella cuando había mayor de grado en altura de segmento maxilar subantral según la clasificación de Misch en el espacio edéntulo parcial.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: The location of the anatomical features is important for maxillary sinus elevation surgery and cone-beam computed tomography is a very useful technique to find them. Aim: To identify the prevalence and location of the posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) relative to the alveolar crest, using Ella's international classification in the Peruvian adult population who attend a diagnostic imaging center, recognized for medical care in the central Peruvian region.  Material and methods: For the placement of dental implants, 240 computed tomography scans of patients with unilateral superior partial edentulism were studied. To locate the posterior superior alveolar artery, 0.5 mm thickness cross-sections in the edentulous sector were used. It was ranked in three degrees considering the distance from the alveolar crest.  Results: Grade 3 had a higher prevalence in the location of the posterior superior alveolar artery and had grade 4 subantral maxillary segment height, registering 99.2% of the total.  Conclusions: The highest degree of localization of the artery was found according to Ella's international classification when there was a greater height of the subantral maxillary segment -according to Misch's classification- in the partial edentulous space.]]></p></abstract>
