Objetivo:  Conocer el efecto que tienen las nanopartículas de Ag en la microdureza Vickers de las resinas compuestas. Hipótesis: las nanopartículas de plata inmersas en un adhesivo hidrofílico producen mayor microdureza Vickers en las resinas compuestas.  Material y métodos:  Se realizó un total de 15 bloques de resina compuesta en moldes cúbicos, cinco fabricados con resina compuesta per se (GI), cinco fabricados de resina compuesta aplicando un recubrimiento de un agente adhesivo hidrofílico (GII), cinco fabricados de resina compuesta con un recubrimiento de (NPs Ag) inmersas en un agente adhesivo hidrofílico (GIII). En cada grupo se analizaron 50 indentaciones. El análisis estadístico se realizó utilizando la prueba ANOVA de un factor con significancia predeterminada con un valor de p &#8804; 0.05. Además, se evaluó el cambio de color de los bloques de resina compuesta.  Resultados:  El valor de microdureza Vickers en el GIII (recubrimiento con NPs Ag inmersas en un agente adhesivo hidrofílico) fue significativamente superior comparado con los demás grupos. Sin embargo, se observó la presencia de pigmentaciones de color blanco sobre los bloques donde fue aplicado el recubrimiento de (NPs Ag).  Conclusiones:  Agregar un recubrimiento de (NPs Ag) inmersas en un adhesivo hidrofílico aumenta significativamente la microdureza Vickers; como efecto adverso produce cambios de color en la superficie donde fue aplicado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Nanotechnology is aimed at the manufacture of particles with unique properties. In composite resins this technology improves mechanical properties, extends service life and increases antibacterial properties.  Objective:  To know the effect that silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have on Vickers microhardness (VHN) of composite resins. Hypothesis: a coating of silver nanoparticles immersed in a hydrophilic adhesive produces greater VHN in composite resins.  Material and methods:  A total of 15 blocks of composite resin were made in cubic molds. Five were manufactured with composite resin alone (group I), five with composite resin plus a coating of a hydrophilic adhesive agent (group II), and five with composite resin plus a coating of Ag NPs immersed in a hydrophilic adhesive agent (group III). Fifty indentations were analyzed in each group. Statistical analysis was performed using one-factor ANOVA test with a p &#8804; 0.05 significance. In addition, color change of the composite resin blocks was evaluated.  Results:  VHN in group III was significantly higher compared with that in the other groups; however, white pigmentations were observed on the blocks where the Ag NPs coating was applied.  Conclusions:  Adding a coating of Ag NPs immersed in a hydrophilic adhesive increases significantly the VHN, but as an adverse effect this procedure causes color changes on the surface of application.]]></p></abstract>
