<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1870-199X2010000400231&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1870-199X2010000400231&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1870-199X2010000400231&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: Después del descubrimiento de los rayos Roentgen, en el año de 1895, se realizaron diversos estudios, los cuales llevaron al conocimiento de los efectos nocivos que conlleva manejar este tipo de radiación ionizante, dependiendo de la cantidad de radiación, de la dosis absorbida y de la sensibilidad del tejido frente a la radiación.(1) Estos efectos secundarios pueden ir desde dermatitis o anemias, llegando en casos graves a hemofilias y en otros casos incluso llevó a algunos de los científicos a la mutilación de partes del cuerpo debido a necrosis.(2) Se estudiaron los efectos que ocasionan las radiaciones ionizantes con material y equipo que sirven como protección para el operador y el paciente, tales como dosímetros termoluminiscentes, equipo lector termoluminiscente y portadosímetros. Entre los resultados se observó que los límites anuales de dosis constituye una medida fundamental en la protección frente a las radiaciones ionizantes. Los límites de dosis actualmente en vigor se enuncian en la NOM-229-SSA 1-2002 así como en el Reglamento General de Seguridad Radiológica, de igual forma las medidas de protección necesarias para pacientes y operadoras embarazadas y niños. Los objetivos del presente estudio fueron cuantificar la dosis absorbida tanto para pacientes como para el personal ocupacionalmente expuesto (POE) y área física, de acuerdo a la NOM-229-SSA 1-2002, así como evaluar si las radiografías intraorales y extraorales utilizadas en odontología implican o no un riesgo importante dentro de la exposición a radiaciones ionizantes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: After the discovery of Roentgen rays, in 1895, different studies were made, discovering the injurious effects that handling this type of ionizing radiation entails, depending on the amount of radiation(1), the absorbed dose and the sensitivity of the tissues to the radiation. These side-effects could be dermatitis, anemias, and hemophilias and in other cases some scientists were mutilated of parts of their body due to necrosis. (2) The effects that caused the ionizing radiations with protective material and equipment for the operator and the patient, such as termoluminiscense dosimeters and termoluminiscense reading equipment were studied. It was observed that annual limits of dose constitute a fundamental guideline in protection of the ionizing radiations. Current limits of dose are mentioned in the NOM-229-SSA 1-2002, as well as in the General Regulation of Radiologic Security. The objectives of the present study were to quantify the absorbed dose for patients and for the occupational exposed personnel (POE) and physical area, according to NOM-229-SSA 1-2002, and also to evaluate if the intraoral and extraoral X-rays in dentistry are an important risk within the exposure to ionizing radiations.]]></p></abstract>
