Para su elección, deben considerarse diferentes factores como la calidad de adhesión al esmalte dentario y microfiltración, así como el sistema de polimerización en los selladores de resina, ya que éstos pueden endurecer por reacción química o por exposición a la luz, por lo que el objetivo de este estudio fue determinar si existe diferencia en la fuerza de adhesión y microfiltración que presentan dos selladores de fosetas y fisuras (de la misma casa comercial), con diferente sistema de polimerización. Las pruebas se realizaron en 40 terceros molares humanos extraídos por motivos ortodóncicos, sin caries ni restauraciones y se les realizó profilaxis. Se formaron cuatro grupos (n = 10) seleccionados al azar. Los selladores se manipularon siguiendo las instrucciones del fabricante. Prueba de adhesión: a los grupos 1 y 3 se les colocó en la cara vestibular una muestra de sellador auto y fotopolimerizable, respectivamente, previo grabado ácido, se almacenaron en agua desionizada (37 ± 1°C); 48 horas después se sometieron a carga traccional (máquina Instron a 1 mm/min). Prueba de microfiltración: las fisuras oclusales de los grupos 2 y 4 se grabaron y sellaron con sellador auto y fotopolimerizable respectivamente; se termociclaron (1,000 ciclos, 5°-45°C); se les cubrió con resina acrílica autopolimerizable y barniz de uñas sin tocar la cara oclusal y se colocaron en azul de metileno al 2% (4 horas). Se seccionaron bucolingualmente y se examinaron con un microscopio estereoscópico (10X). Los resultados de adhesión se analizaron con una t de Student y se encontró diferencia estadísticamente significativa (p = 0.035) entre ambos sistemas de polimerización. En la prueba de microfiltración, 20% de las muestras selladas con el sellador fotopolimerizable presentaron microfiltración, mientras que con el autopolimerizable hubo filtración en el 45%; estos resultados se analizaron con la prueba Mann-Whitney y no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p = 0.179).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The pit and fissure sealants have been used successfully in preventive dentistry as a physical barrier to isolate fissures from oral fluids. We have to consider different factors such as the quality of adhesion to the tooth enamel, microleakage and the polymerization system which can be a chemical reaction or light activation. The aim of this study was to compare the adhesion and microleakage of two pit and fissure sealants of the same manufacturer with different polymerization system. Forty human molars without caries or restorations extracted for orthodontic reasons were used in this study. Four groups of ten teeth each were randomly selected. Prophylaxis was made on all molars. The sealants were handled according to the manufactures instructions. Adhesion test: previous acid etching groups 1 and 3 received a sample of each sealant on the vestibular face, then were stored in deionized water (37 ± 1°C). Forty-eight hours later they were tested by applying a tractional load (Instron machine, 1 mm/min). Microleakage test: Occlusal fissures of the 2 and 4 groups were etched and sealed with a chemical- and light-activated sealants respectively, then thermocycled (1,000 cycles; 5-45°C). A coat of acrylic resin and nail varnish was placed on the molars leaving the occlusal surface free and immersed for 4 hours in a 2% methylene blue dye. Molars were sectioned buccolingually and examined with a stereomicroscope (10X). The results of the adhesion test were analyzed with a Student t that showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.035) between both polymerization systems. Twenty percent of the specimens sealed with a light-activated sealant presented microleakage; 45% of specimens sealed with a chemical reaction sealant presented microleakage. These results were compared by the Mann-Whitney nonparametric test. No statistical significant differences were found (p = 0.179).]]></p></abstract>
