En el noreste de México, el matorral espinoso tamaulipeco se ha visto afectado por la remoción de la cubierta vegetal con el propósito de que su superficie sea destinada para diferentes actividades económicas. Se han buscado estrategias para tratar de revertir el daño causado, por ello grupos de gestores y académicos han recurrido a la reforestación con especies nativas para conocer los requerimientos de cada especie y poder determinar cuáles son las mejores para estas prácticas. Se evaluó el desempeño de una reforestación con especies nativas del matorral espinoso tamaulipeco (Cordia boisieri, Caesalpinia mexicana, Eysenhardtia texana y Leucophyllum frutenscens). Se realizaron evaluaciones cada seis meses; desde el inicio de la plantación hasta 41 meses después. La supervivencia fue determinada por el método Kaplan-Meier además de calcular tasas de crecimiento para las variables diámetro, altura y cobertura. La supervivencia general fue de 49.4%. La especie C. boissieri fue la que menor supervivencia presentó (37.7%). En términos de crecimiento en diámetro, C. boissieri y C. mexicana registraron mayor crecimiento, aunque a partir del mes 30 todas las especies presentaron disminución. Al inicio, las tasas de crecimiento en altura fueron mínimas, después del mes 20, la especie C. mexicana mostró alturas significativamente mayores. La especie C. mexicana registró poco más de 10% de la cobertura, aunque C. boissieri fue la especie que menor supervivencia registró, al igual que C. mexicana mostraron mayor crecimiento con respecto al resto de las especies.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The irrational use of natural resources has led to degradation of ecosystems. In northeastern Mexico, Tamaulipan thornscrub has been affected by the removal of the vegetation cover due to different economic activities. Faced with this problem, strategies have been sought to try to reverse the damage caused to this community, for this reason, groups of managers and academics have resorted to reforestation with native species to know the requirements of each species and to be able to determine which are best for them. In the present study, the performance of a reforestation practice with native species of the Tamaulipas thorn scrub (Cordia boisieri, Caesalpinia mexicana, Eysenhardtia texana and Leucophyllum frutenscens) was evaluated. Evaluations were carried out every six months, from the beginning of the plantation until 41 months later. Survival was determined by the Kaplan-Meier method in addition to calculating growth rates for diameter, height, and cover. Overall survival was 49.4%. C. boissieri had the lowest survival (37.7%). C. boissieri and C. mexicana registered higher growth in diameter, all species stopped growing in diameter after 30 months. Early growth rates in height were minimal, after month 20, C. mexicana was significantly taller. C. mexicana registered just over 10% of coverage.
