En esta cuenca Pinus durangensis es una conífera dominante, pero debido a su explotación intensiva quedan pocos rodales remanentes sin disturbio. Para analizar el potencial dendrocronológico de la especie, se colectaron núcleos de crecimiento de 63 árboles, que se procesaron con técnicas dendrocronológicas convencionales. La inter-correlación ente series (0.463), sensibilidad media (0.309), autocorrelación de primer orden (0.41) y relación señal-ruido (5.24), entre otros parámetros estadísticos indicaron excelente potencial de la especie para estudios dendrocronológicos. Se generaron series de tiempo de madera temprana, tardía y de anillo total que se extendió de 1780 a 2012 (232 años). Los índices de madera temprana, respondieron a la precipitación acumulada promedio del período enero-agosto, procedente de cuatro estaciones climáticas circunvecinas al sitio, por lo que se generó un modelo lineal, para una reconstrucción de lluvia invierno a inicios de verano. La variabilidad hidroclimática detectada fue similar a otras desarrolladas previamente para la región hidrológica Presidio San Pedro, donde El Niño Oscilación del Sur (ENSO) es el fenómeno circulatorio que determina la variación interanual y multianual en la precipitación invernal. No se encontró una relación significativa entre la precipitación de verano y los índices de madera tardía, lo que supone poca variación interanual del Monzón de Norteamérica, no obstante ser causante de 70% de la precipitación anual en esta región hidrológica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The Presidio San Pedro basin yields the water of one the main streams draining to Marismas Nacionales in the states of Sinaloa and Nayarit. A dominant conifer species on this watershed is Pinus durangensis a heavily logged species such that old-growth forest has disappeared. Increment cores from 63 trees of P. durangensis in a low disturbed site were extracted to analyze its dendrochronological potential. The samples were processed by standard dendrochronological techniques. Series intercorrelation (0.463), mean sensitivity (0.309), first order autocorrelation (0.41), and signal tonoise ratio (5.24) among other parameters indicated excellent potential of the species for dendrochronological purposes. Time series of earlywood, latewood and total ring width were developed with a length of 232 years (1780-2012). The earlywood chronology responded to the accumulated January-August precipitation from four weather stations in the watershed and a linear regression model was used to reconstruct seasonal winter to early summer precipitation. Similar to other previous climatic reconstructions for the Presidio San Pedro basin, ENSO was the most influential phenomena on explaining the interannual and multiannual variability. It was not found a significant relationship between latewood indices and summer precipitation indicating low inter-annual variability of the North American Monsoon System, even though this phenomenon causes over 70% of the annual precipitation on this region.]]></p></abstract>
