Para propiciar su reproducción sexual, el objetivo fue evaluar la emergencia y el desarrollo de A. salmiana utilizando siete sustratos. Se cuantificaron días a emergencia (DAE), porcentaje de emergencia (PE), índice de velocidad de emergencia (IVE) y altura de hoja cotiledonar (AC) 21 días después de la siembra. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre olote y bagazo de maguey para DAE e IVE. Se encontró que turba y bagazo de maguey desarrollaron la misma AC. Los valores más bajos para DAE, IVE y AC se encontraron en suelo y mezcla de suelo con olote. Perlita, turba, olote y bagazo de maguey presentaron emergencia entre 5.7 d y 6.5 d. El bagazo de maguey se considera una alternativa al uso de sustratos comerciales para la germinación y desarrollo en etapas iniciales de A. salmiana.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Agave genus is one of the most representative of Mexico; however, the reproduction of maguey pulquero has decreased considerably. To promote its sexual reproduction, the objective was to evaluate the emergence and development of A. salmiana using seven substrates. Days to emergence (DTE), emergence percentage (PE), emergence velocity index (EVI), and cotyledon leaf height (CLH) were quantified 21 days after sowing. No significant differences were found between the cob and the maguey bagasse for DTE and EVI. It was found that peat and maguey bagasse developed the same CA. The lowest values for DTE, EVI, and CLH were found in soil and mixture of soil with cob. Perlite, peat, cob, and maguey bagasse emerged between 5.7 d and 6.5 d. Maguey bagasse is considered an alternative to the use of commercial substrates for germination and development in initial stages of A. salmiana.]]></p></abstract>
