The present study reports on the ability of three Bacillus spp. strains to remove Ni and V contained in a spent catalyst at 8% of pulp density (w/v). As modifications in the growth environment, like pH and the presence of diverse carbon sources, can cause changes in cell properties, the present study evaluated the effect of glucose presence in PHGII media on Ni and V removal from a spent catalyst. Assays were performed on PHGII liquid media, and on PHGII without glucose for 7 days. The maximum removal values obtained were 2542 mg/kg for Ni, and 3701 mg/kg for V for the isolate MV-9K-2 of Bacillus megaterium in the system, where PHGII was not added with glucose.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Debido al agotamiento progresivo de los recursos naturales y el incremento de la contaminación ambien-tal, la recuperación de metales a partir de catalizadores agotados ha cobrado importancia por considerarse como una fuente alternativa de metales de alto valor comercial. Este estudio reporta la habilidad de tres cepas de Bacillus spp. para remover Ni y V contenidos en un catalizador agotado a una concentración del 8% (w/v). Debido a que modificaciones en el ambiente de crecimiento pueden causar cambios en las propiedades celulares, el presente trabajo evaluó el efecto de la glucosa en la remoción de Ni y V a partir del catalizador agotado. El análisis se realizó en medio líquido PHGII y no adicionando la glucosa a este medio, durante 7 días, obteniéndose las mayores remociones para Ni (2542 mg/kg) y V (3701 mg/kg) con el aislado MV-9K-2 de B. megaterium cuando el medio PHGII se utilizó sin la adición de glucosa.]]></p></abstract>
