El objetivo de este artículo consistirá revisar cómo ha cambiado el concepto de elemento químico del siglo XIX al siglo XX y cómo puede interpretarse la definición actual del concepto de elemento químico y las implicaciones que puede tener para su enseñanza. Este manuscrito está dividido en tres apartados, el primero de ellos titulado &#8220;El concepto de elemento químico en el modelo atómico clásico del siglo XIX&#8221;, seguido del apartado &#8220;La conceptualización del elemento químico en el siglo XX: ¿uno o dos significados? y finalmente se desarrolla el último apartado sobre &#8220;Algunas visiones deformadas del concepto de elemento químico a tener en cuenta en su enseñanza&#8221;.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The epistemology of any scientific concept acquires its full meaning taking into account the problem that made possible its conceptualization at a given historical moment and its subsequent development. The objective of this paper will be to review how the chemical element concept has changed from the 19th to the 20th century and how the current definition of the chemical element concept can be interpreted and the implications it may have for its teaching. This manuscript is divided into three sections, the first of them entitled &#8220;The concept of chemical element in the classical atomic model of 19th century&#8221;, followed by the section &#8220;The conceptualization of the chemical element in the 20th century: one or two meanings? And finally, the last section is developed &#8220;Some distorted views of the chemical element concept to be taken into account in its teaching.&#8221;]]></p></abstract>
