Todos los años, los productores tienen que reprogramar la fecha de plantación para cumplir con el cronograma de entrega de las papas en forma prorrateada. El cumplimiento de esta exigencia está sujeta a una gran incertidumbre debido a la variabilidad climática, principalmente entre cierre de melga y cosecha; por lo tanto, en este estudio se propone evaluar tres métodos basados en el tiempo térmico que permitan optimizar la fecha de plantación. Utilizando una base de datos de cuatro años con información de rendimientos, calidad, temperatura ambiental, días a cosecha, fechas de estados fenológicos y manejos, se evaluaron los siguientes métodos: 1) método de la temperatura media o unidades de calor con temperaturas base de 4 y 7 °C, 2) modelo grados día (°D) con intervalo de temperatura entre 2 y 29 °C, y 3) Potato days (P-days) o días fenológicos de papa con temperaturas base de 4 y 7 °C. El mejor método para estas condiciones correspondió al P-days con 4 °C; sin embargo, y a diferencia de otros estudios, se determinó que el momento relevante para dar comienzo a la acumulación de tiempo fisiológico (Biofix) debe ser la emergencia de las plantas y no la fecha de plantación. Se registró un total de 723 P-days a cosecha y una oscilación entre plantación y emergencia de 34 a 66 días, con una alta relación con los rendimientos finales del cultivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary In Northern Chile, Coquimbo Region, potato planting for agro-industry takes place in Autumn-Winter. Every year, growers have to reschedule the planting date to meet the potato delivery schedule on a pro-rata basis. Compliance with this requirement is subject to great uncertainty due to climatic variability, mainly between planting closure and harvest; therefore, in this study it is proposed to evaluate three methods based on thermal time to optimize the planting date. Using a four-year database with information on yields, quality, ambient temperature, days to harvest, dates of phenological stages and management, the following methods were evaluated: 1) mean temperature method or heat units with base temperatures of 4 and 7 °C, 2) degree days (°D) model with temperature range between 2 and 29 °C, and 3) Potato days (P-days) or phenological potato days with base temperatures of 4 and 7 °C. The best method for these conditions corresponded to P-days with 4 °C; however, and unlike other studies, it was determined that the relevant moment to start the accumulation of physiological time (Biofix) should be at plant emergence and not the planting date. A total of 723 P-days to harvest and an oscillation between planting and emergence of 34 to 66 days were recorded, with a close relationship with final crop yields.]]></p></abstract>
