Los objetivos del presente trabajo fueron determinar la riqueza de especies y composición de macroalgas epizoicas para el Atlántico mexicano a partir de los datos en el caracol Stramonita rustica y mediante una búsqueda exhaustiva de literatura ficológica publicada para toda la región.  Métodos:  En 2018 se recolectaron 130 especímenes del gasterópodo Stramonita rustica en Playa Hermosa, Veracruz, México. También se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de los estudios en el Atlántico mexicano hasta 2024 para obtener los registros de las algas epizoicas. Se realizó la identificación taxonómica de la ficoflora que crece sobre dicho caracol empleando características morfológicas externas y cortes transversales de talos completos.  Resultados clave:  Con base en la revisión de literatura y especímenes del molusco Stramonita rustica, en total se registraron 117 taxones de algas epizoicas en el Atlántico mexicano, los cuales se agruparon en 72 géneros, 40 familias, 21 órdenes y tres divisiones. Los géneros con el mayor número de especies fueron Ulva (6), Cladophora (5) y Chaetomorpha (5). A nivel familia, destacaron Rhodomelaceae (16), Cladophoraceae (11) y Ceramiaceae (8). Los órdenes con mayor riqueza específica fueron Ceramiales (32), Cladophorales (15) y Bryopsidales (15), que en conjunto representaron 53% del total de algas registradas. Siphonocladus rigidus fue nuevo registro para las costas de Veracruz.  Conclusiones:  La alta riqueza de macroalgas documentadas en este trabajo demuestra que los sustratos animales vivos son un sitio favorable para su establecimiento y crecimiento, haciendo evidente la necesidad de elaborar estudios enfocados al conocimiento de la epibiosis algal. Además, el nuevo registro contribuye al conocimiento de la biodiversidad del Atlántico mexicano, particularmente en Veracruz.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background and Aims:  Phycological studies in the Mexican Atlantic have been aimed at understanding the benthic flora; however, the number of studies on epizoic algae is limited. The objectives of this work were to determine the species richness and composition of epizoic macroalgae for the Mexican Atlantic from data on the snail Stramonita rustica and through an exhaustive search of published phycological literature for the entire region.  Methods:  In 2018, 130 specimens of the gastropod Stramonita rustica were collected at Playa Hermosa, Veracruz, Mexico. A bibliographic review of studies in the Mexican Atlantic until 2024 was also carried out to obtain records of epizoic algae. Taxonomic identification of the phycoflora that grows on this snail was carried out, using external morphological characteristics and cross sections of complete thalli.  Key results:  Based on the literature review and specimens of the mollusk Stramonita rustica, a total of 117 taxa of epizoic algae were recorded in the Mexican Atlantic. These were grouped into 72 genera, 40 families, 21 orders and three divisions. The genera with the highest number of species were Ulva (6), Cladophora (5) and Chaetomorpha (5). At the family level, Rhodomelaceae (16), Cladophoraceae (11) and Ceramiaceae (8) stood out. The orders with the highest species richness were Ceramiales (32), Cladophorales (15) and Bryopsidales (15), which together represent 53% of the total algae recorded.
