Los algoritmos más utilizados para la clasificación de la cobertura agrícola incluyen distancia mínima, máxima verosimilitud, mapeador de ángulos espectrales y Random Forest. En este estudio se evaluó el desempeño de estos algoritmos para identificar, mapear y cuantificar la superficie cultivada con maíz forrajero, cultivo de alta relevancia económica, en los módulos de riego X y XII del Distrito de Riego 017 Región Lagunera. Se emplearon imágenes satelitales Sentinel-2, adquiridas en tres fechas correspondientes a etapas fenológicas clave del maíz forrajero, desde el panojamiento hasta la fase reproductiva de grano lechoso. El algoritmo Random Forest con 100 árboles de decisión mostró el mejor desempeño, alcanzando los valores más altos de precisión global e índice de Kappa en ambos módulos de riego. El Módulo X presentó valores de precisión global de 79.1% e índice Kappa de 0.63. Por otra parte, el Módulo XII registró valores del 87.4% de precisión global y 0.79 de índice Kappa. Las precisiones más altas se lograron con la imagen del 11 de junio de 2021 (día juliano 162), cuando las diferencias fenológicas y de cobertura favorecieron la separación de los cultivos. El maíz forrajero presentó la mayor cobertura de la superficie en el área de estudio, alcanzando 44% de la superficie total. La clasificación del maíz forrajero resultó ser la más confiable en comparación con las demás clases evaluadas en ambos módulos. La identificación precisa, tanto espacial como temporal, del maíz forrajero permite la generación de inventarios actualizados y confiables, lo que contribuye de manera efectiva a la toma de decisiones en la planificación y manejo del cultivo, así como en la gestión de los recursos hídricos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: Supervised classification is a technique that identifies spectrally similar regions using training samples extracted from a satellite image. The most used agricultural land cover classification algorithms include minimum distance, maximum likelihood, spectral angle mapper, and Random Forest. This study evaluated the performance of these algorithms in identifying, mapping, and quantifying the area cultivated with forage maize in irrigation modules X and XII of Irrigation District 017 in the Laguna Region, a crop of high economic importance. Sentinel-2 satellite imagery was used, acquired on three dates corresponding to key phenological stages of forage maize, from tasseling to the reproductive milky grain stage. The Random Forest algorithm with 100 decision trees performed best, achieving the highest overall accuracy and Kappa index scores in both irrigation modules. Module X presented overall accuracy values of 79.1% and a Kappa index of 0.63. On the other hand, Module XII recorded values of 87.4% overall accuracy and 0.79 Kappa index. The highest accuracies were obtained with the image from June 11, 2021 (Julian Day 162), when phenological and coverage differences favored the separation of the crops. Forage maize covered the largest surface area in the study region, reaching 44% of the total surface. The classification of forage maize proved to be the most reliable compared to the other evaluated classes in both modules. The precise identification, spatially and temporally, of forage maize allows for the generation of updated and reliable inventories, effectively contributing to decision-making in crop planning and management, as well as in the management of water resources.]]></p></abstract>
