En el presente trabajo se analizaron los IV desde una aproximación teórica al considerar las interacciones de primer y segundo orden, al igual que el problema de transferencia radiativa en medios homogéneos y heterogéneos de la vegetación. Los patrones de las curvas de igual vegetación (índice de área foliar o IAF) son usados como referencia en la revisión de los IV. Las curvas iso-IAF se parametrizaron en el espacio espectral del rojo (R) e infrarrojo cercano (IRC) y se analizó el uso de otros espacios espectrales. Los patrones de las curvas iso-IAF fueron invariantes bajo efectos atmosféricos, así como de espacios espectrales diferentes del R e IRC. Se consideró los efectos de la geometría sol-sensor para su estandarización, de tal manera que los patrones espectrales desarrollados permanecen invariantes. El marco teórico desarrollado, patrones de las curvas iso-IAF, permite analizar en forma generalizada a los IV de cualquier tipo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Vegetation indices (VI) have been proposed as an indirect way of measuring biophysical vegetation variables, based on spectral data obtained with remote sensing. We analyzed the VI from a theoretical perspective considering the interactions of first and second order, as well as the radiative transfer problem present in homogenous and heterogeneous media. Iso-vegetation curve patterns (leaf area index, LAI) were developed to be used as reference during the VI revision. Iso-LAI curves were parameterized in the red (R) and near infrared (NIR) space and the use of other spectral spaces was analyzed. The iso-LAI curve patterns did not change regardless of atmospheric effects or the use of spectral spaces different from R and NIR. Additionally, the sun-sensor geometry effects were also considered for their standardization in such a way that the curve patterns were invariant. The theoretical framework presented in this paper, iso-LAI patterns, allows generalized analysis of any type of VI.]]></p></abstract>
