El experimento se realizó en dos ciclos. En los meses de julio-agosto de 2009 y marzo-abril de 2010. Esta consistió en la germinación de semillas de tomate en macetas con turba como sustrato. Se establecieron 6 tratamientos, estos fueron: dos tratamientos con el T. harzianum inmovilizado en los hidrogeles de quitosano aplicado al sustrato a dos dosis (6 y 3 g por kg de sustrato), dos tratamientos con los hidrogeles de quitosano aplicado a las mismas dosis pero sin el hongo, un tratamiento donde se aplicó el hongo en forma de suspensión al sustrato, y un testigo absoluto (solo sustrato). En ambos ciclos se realizaron pruebas de viabilidad de T. harzianum en las muestras de sustrato usadas de los tratamientos correspondientes; al momento de la inmovilización y a los 30 y 51 días después de la siembra. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que el crecimiento de los hongos inmovilizados en el primer ciclo fue similar en todos los tratamientos correspondientes, en el segundo ciclo sobresale la superioridad del hongo inmovilizado al mantener por más tiempo una concentración alta de T. harzianum (Th). En cuanto a los efectos sobre las plantas de tomate correspondientes a las variables estudiadas, se observó que los tratamientos con el hongo inmovilizado en los hidrogeles producían plantas con menor crecimiento y biomasa vegetal, sin embargo, el contenido mineral de P, Ca y Cu fue mayor en los tratamientos con la presencia del hongo. No se observó ningún efecto sobre la epidermis foliar, tejido vascular de las hojas, tallos y raíces, y la asimilación de CO2 (P &#8804; 0.05).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The immobilization of Trichoderma harzianum on chitosan hydrogels and their effects on greenhouse tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum) was documented. The experiment was conducted in two cycles. In July-August 2009 and March-April 2010. This consisted in the germination of tomato seeds in pots with turb as substrate. Six treatments were established: two treatments of T. harzianum immobilized on chitosan hydrogels applied to two doses (6 and 3 g kg-1 of substrate), two treatments with chitosan hydrogels applied to the same doses without the fungus, a treatment where the fungus was applied to the substrate as a suspension, and a control (only substrate). In both cycles the viability of T. harzianum in the substrate samples used for treatments, at the time of immobilization and 30 and 51 days after sowing was tested. The results show that the growth of fungi immobilized in the first cycle was similar in all treatments, in the second cycle, when the high concentration of T. harzianum (Th) was maintained for a longer time, the superiority of the immobilized fungus was evident. In terms of effects on tomato plants of the variables studied, we observed that treatments with the fungus immobilized in the hydrogels produced less plant growth and plant biomass, but the P, Ca, and Cu mineral content was higher in treatments with the presence of fungus. There was no effect on the leaf epidermis, vascular tissue of leaves, stems and roots, or CO2 assimilation (P &#8804; 0.05).]]></p></abstract>
