The aim of this work was to determine the causal agent associated with the regressive death of P. canariensis in Santiago de Queretaro City. Therefore, inspections were made in order to find specimens with disease symptoms, and from the samples of rachis and apical meristem, pieces of tissue were left in wet chambers in order to promote of fungi and bacteria. A pathogenicity test from one isolate was done. A total of 262 palm trees were sampled: 95 without symptoms (36.3%), 122 death palms (46.6%) and 45 diseased (17.2%) with basal leaves death and flag leaf death. From 12 palms, Fusarium spp. (from the complex F. incarnatum and F. verticillioides) was molecularly identified. According to the morphological characteristics Erwinia sp. and F. solani were identified and with the last one pathogenicity test performed on two-year-old palms. Also, the lethal yellowing disease was identified since an apical meristem sample was sent to the National Phytosanitary Reference Center. The results showed the presence of a complex of pathogens asscociated with the regressive death of P. canariensis.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen. La palma canariense (Phoenix canariensis) se ha visto severamente afectada durante la década pasada con alta mortalidad de ejemplares de todas las edades en la ciudad de Querétaro, México. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar los agentes causales asociados a la muerte regresiva de P. canariensis en la ciudad de Santiago de Querétaro. Se realizaron recorridos en la zona conurbada para identificar palmas con síntomas, y de las muestras de meristemo apical y raquis de hojas, trozos de tejido fueron colocados en cámaras húmedas para promover el desarrollo de hongos y bacterias. A partir de un aislamiento se realizó las pruebas de patogenicidad. En total 262 palmas fueron muestreadas: 95 asintomáticas (36.3%), 122 plantas muertas (46.6%) y 45 plantas con síntomas (17.2%) asociados a hojas basales muertas y hoja bandera muerta. De 12 palmas, se identificaron molecularmente Fusarium spp. (del complejo F. incarnatum y F. verticillioides). En el caso de F. solani, la patogenicidad fue confirmada en palmas de dos años. De acuerdo con las características morfológicas se identificó a Erwinia sp. También se identificó al amarillamiento letal del cocotero en una muestra enviada al Centro Nacional de Referencia Fitosanitaria. Los resultados mostraron la presencia de un complejo de patógenos asociados a la muerte regresiva de P. canariensis.]]></p></abstract>
