This investigation aimed to identify the variability of YR and to evaluate the resistance level of seedlings and adult plants, the agronomic behavior of 15 advanced lines, and one control variety of two-row barley. During the 2021 spring-summer season, YR samples were collected from locations in the Highland Valleys of Central Mexico. Establishment of a field test in three locations allowed estimation of the agronomic behavior and resistance in adult plants; while evaluation of seedlings resistance was in a greenhouse. Nine YR isolations were identified, of which the most frequent (27%) was CMEX/21.9. Twelve lines expressed resistance in seedlings and adult plants. Alexia &#8220;s&#8221; is the candidate line with immunity to yellow rust. The results of resistance (field and greenhouse) and agronomic behavior allowed germplasm identification with outstanding characteristics. The release of varieties with genetic resistance to diseases contributes to the reduction of environmental deterioration.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La producción del cultivo de cebada en México en los últimos años ha sido afectada por las royas, de las cuales, la roya amarilla (RA) ha recobrado importancia. El objetivo de la investigación fue identificar la variabilidad de la RA y evaluar el nivel de resistencia en plántula y planta adulta, además del comportamiento agronómico de 15 líneas avanzadas y una variedad testigo de cebada de dos hileras. Durante el ciclo primavera-verano 2021 se colectaron muestras de RA de localidades de los Valles Altos del Centro de México y se estableció, en tres localidades un ensayo en campo para evaluar el comportamiento agronómico y resistencia en planta adulta; en invernadero se evaluó la resistencia en plántula. Se identificaron nueve aislamientos de RA, de los cuales el más frecuente fue CMEX/21.9 (27%). 12 líneas expresaron resistencia en plántula y planta adulta. Alexia &#8220;s&#8221; es la línea candidata con inmunidad a roya amarilla. Los resultados de la resistencia (campo e invernadero) y comportamiento agronómico permitió identificar germoplasma con características sobresalientes. La liberación de variedades con resistencia genética a enfermedades contribuye en la disminución del deterioro del medio ambiente.]]></p></abstract>
