De este modo, sobre la base de la distinción entre saber intuitivo y saber proposicional, el proyecto barroco de ciencia universal se caracteriza como un saber proposicional y categorial cuya meta es abarcar la totalidad de las cosas. En este sentido, las realizaciones de los siglos XVI y XVII se complementan entre sí, en la medida en que el primero llevó a cabo una empresa de recolección sobre la que el segundo reflexionó lógica y epistemológicamente. De esta forma, el saber enciclopédico o universal se organiza de manera deductiva y, al mismo tiempo, tópica, fundándose por dicha tarea una serie de supuestos determinantes, a saber, la admisión de una estructura ontológica total, la confianza en la potencia cognoscitiva de la razón humana, el carácter &#8220;cósmico&#8221; o &#8220;bien ordenado&#8221; del mundo, la perfectibilidad infinita -aunque confinada- de nuestro conocimiento y la posibilidad de basar la universalidad de la ciencia en alguna clase de cálculo o algoritmo. Finalmente, la búsqueda de una ciencia universal en los siglos XVI y XVII encuentra su base antropológica en una nueva manera de ver y tematizar tanto el mundo como nuestro acceso a él, en un contexto de profundos cambios.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The article analyzes the guiding ideas behind the Baroque concept of universal science. Based on the distinction between intuitive knowledge and propositional knowledge, the Baroque project of universal science is characterized as a propositional and categorical form of knowledge aimed at encompassing the totality of things. In this sense, the achievements of the 16th and 17th centuries complement each other insofar as the former undertook a process of collection, upon which the latter would later reflect from a logical and epistemological perspective. Thus, encyclopedic or universal knowledge is organized both deductively and topically, a task founded on a series of key assumptions, namely: the acceptance of a total ontological structure, confidence in the cognitive power of human reason, the &#8220;cosmic&#8221; or &#8220;well-ordered&#8221; nature of the world, the infinite-yet confined- perfectibility of our knowledge, and the possibility of grounding the universality of science in some form of calculation or algorithm. Finally, the pursuit of universal science in the 16th and 17th centuries finds its anthropological basis in a new way of perceiving and conceptualizing both the world and our access to it, within a context of profound transformations.]]></p></abstract>
