Colombia posee una de las mayores extensiones de bosque natural en el planeta, al igual que una alta tasa de deforestación. Existen diversas herramientas y metodologías para la detección de pérdida de bosque teniendo como insumo las imágenes de satélite y productos derivados de ellos. Sin embargo, al momento de iniciar la investigación, la identificación de pérdida de bosque se realizaba usando dos o más índices o transformaciones espectrales al igual que la edición manual, lo que conlleva a mayor tiempo y propagación de errores. El presente estudio tiene como objetivo la generación de un índice espectral y temporal con la capacidad de extraer áreas deforestadas en un rango de tiempo y zona de interés definida por el usuario por medio de imágenes de satélite Landsat. Para ello, se desarrolla una metodología basada en el análisis de series de tiempo usando la herramienta LandTrendr para identificar los rangos espectrales que permiten detectar perturbación de bosque y posteriormente proponer una ecuación para el cálculo de un indicador de perturbación por deforestación. La utilidad del índice propuesto se prueba en algunas zonas de la Amazonia colombiana en las cuales existen datos de deforestación oficiales para el periodo 2000 a 2017. Los resultados de las pruebas muestran que el índice propuesto permite obtener una exactitud temática superior al 80%. El índice espectral no solo identifica la pérdida de bosque sino su posible regeneración lo que permitiría obtener las cifras de diversos cambios en el bosque. Finalmente, el índice logra identificar las zonas de perturbación en el bosque con buenos resultados en su exactitud temática.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Currently, one of the most serious problems at a global level is the accelerated rate of forest loss and the effects that have an impact on the delicate stability of the environment. Colombia has one of the largest extensions of natural forest on the planet, as well as a high rate of deforestation. There are several tools and methodologies for detecting loss of forest taking as input satellite images and products derived from them. However, at the time of starting the investigation, the identification of forest loss was carried out using two or more indices or spectral transformations as well as manual editing, which leads to longer time and propagation of errors. The present study aims to generate a spectral and temporal index with the ability to extract deforested areas in a range of time and area of interest defined by the user through Landsat satellite images. For this, a methodology based on the time series analysis using LandTrendr tool to identify spectral ranges that detect disturbance of forest and then propose an equation for calculating a disturbance indicator deforestation develops. The usefulness of the proposed index is tested in some areas of the Colombian Amazon in which there are official deforestation data for the period 2000 to 2017. The results of the tests show that the proposed index allows obtaining a thematic accuracy greater than 80%. The spectral index not only identifies the loss of the forest but its possible regeneration, which would allow obtaining the figures of various changes in the forest. Finally, the index can identify areas of disturbance in the forest with good results in its thematic accuracy.]]></p></abstract>
