Antecedentes:  En Oaxaca, los estudios sobre líquenes se han llevado a cabo en bosques templados. La selva baja caducifolia alberga una alta diversidad liquénica.  Objetivo:  Conocer la riqueza y composición de líquenes en forofitos de la selva baja caducifolia en la región mixteca de Oaxaca.  Métodos:  Se recolectaron líquenes cortícolas en diferentes forofitos. Para la identificación de los líquenes, se siguieron los protocolos establecidos.  Resultados y conclusiones:  Se identificaron 11 especies de forofitos y 47 especies de líquenes cortícolas: 39 especies fueron líquenes foliosos, 6 costrosos y 2 fruticosos. El forofito con mayor riqueza fue el cactus (21 spp.) y el de menor, Ipomoea (2 spp.). Dominaron los líquenes foliosos vs. costrosos, debido a que algunos géneros son más tolerantes a la sequía y a su alta necesidad de luz. Se confirma que la selva baja caducifolia presenta una interesante diversidad alfa de líquenes e importantes para su conservación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract.  Background:  In Oaxaca, lichen studies have been carried out in temperate forests. Tropical dry forest hosts a high diversity of lichens.  Objective:  To assess the richness and composition of lichens on phorophytes in the tropical dry forest of the Mixteca region of Oaxaca.  Methods:  Corticolous lichens were collected on different phorophytes. Established protocols were followed to identify the lichens.  Results and conclusions:  Eleven phorophyte species and 47 corticolous lichen species were identified: 39 were foliose lichens, 6 crustose, and 2 fruticose. The phorophyte with the highest lichen richness was the cactus (21 spp.), and the lowest was Ipomoea (2 spp.). Foliose lichens dominated vs. crustose, due to some genera being more drought-tolerant and their higher requirement for light. It has been confirmed that the tropical dry forest exhibits an interesting alpha diversity of lichens that is worth conserving.]]></p></abstract>
