La dinamometría de prensión manual es un método sencillo, portátil, inocuo y fácilmente replicable que puede utilizarse al pie de cama en el paciente de UCI para determinar su fuerza muscular periférica y que podría ser un complemento ideal a la escala del Medical Research Council en aras de realizar una evaluación completa del paciente e implementar estrategias para disminuir el riesgo de padecer debilidad muscular adquirida en UCI. Basado en lo anterior, el objetivo de esta revisión es describir la utilidad de la evaluación de la fuerza muscular por dinamometría de prensión manual en las unidades de cuidado intensivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The objective measurement of muscle strength in intensive care units (ICU) has become an essential data in the integral rehabilitation of the critically ill patient, establishing itself as a follow-up and prognostic measure that can inform about the suffering of acquired muscle weakness in ICU, impact of early mobilization programs, length of hospital stay and even success in the ventilatory weaning and titubation process. Manual handgrip dynamometry is a simple, portable, innocuous and easily replicable method that can be used at the bedside in ICU patients to determine their peripheral muscle strength and could be an ideal complement to the Medical Research Council scale in order to perform a complete evaluation of the patient and implement strategies to reduce the risk of ICU-acquired muscle weakness.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: A medição objetiva da força muscular em unidades de terapia intensiva (UTI) tornou-se um dado essencial na reabilitação integral do paciente em estado crítico, estabelecendo-se como uma medida de acompanhamento e prognóstico que pode informar sobre a fraqueza muscular adquirida na UTI, o impacto dos programas de mobilização precoce, o tempo de permanência no hospital e até mesmo o sucesso no processo de desmame ventilatório e extubação. A dinamometria de preensão manual é um método simples, portátil, inócuo e facilmente replicável que pode ser utilizado à beira do leito do paciente na UTI para determinar sua força muscular periférica e que pode ser um complemento ideal à escala do Medical Research Council para realizar uma avaliação completa do paciente e implementar estratégias para reduzir o risco de sofrer de fraqueza muscular adquirida na UTI. Com base no exposto, o objetivo desta revisão é descrever a utilidade da avaliação da força muscular pela dinamometria de preensão manual em unidades de terapia intensiva.]]></p></abstract>
