<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2448-89092023000700573&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2448-89092023000700573&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2448-89092023000700573&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  Introducción:  se define sepsis como el síndrome comprendido por anormalidades patológicas y bioquímicas inducidas por un proceso infeccioso, las cuales provocan una respuesta inflamatoria sistémica del huésped que llega a causar disfunción orgánica, conocida como sepsis grave; dicha alteración puede culminar en choque séptico cuando es causada por hipotensión refractaria a la reanimación con líquidos, lo que tiene un impacto directo en la perfusión tisular y provoca elevación de lactato sérico. La relación directa entre elevación de biomarcadores como proteína C reactiva (PCR) y procalcitonina (PCT) con la mortalidad es controversial. El objetivo de este estudio es relacionar el índice PCR/PCT con la mortalidad observada en pacientes con choque séptico.  Material y métodos:  se realizó un estudio observacional, retrospectivo que incluyó a los pacientes que ingresaron a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) entre enero de 2022 y marzo de 2023 con diagnóstico de choque séptico. Se analizaron variables como edad, sexo, comorbilidades, niveles de leucocitos, lactato sérico, creatinina, proteína C reactiva, procalcitonina y, con base en ellos, se calculó el cociente PCR/PCT. Aplicamos el modelo estadístico de &#967;2 para la relación de variables.  Resultados:  fueron incluidos en el estudio 142 pacientes, en los cuales se observó una mortalidad de 20.4%. El foco infeccioso más predominante fue respiratorio y urinario. La proteína C reactiva promedio fue de 15.42 (rango intercuartil 5.55, 23), medianas de procalcitonina de 1.86 (0.44, 17.6), mediana de índice PCR/PCT en 3.64 (0.98, 21.13). Un índice PCR/PCT menor a 3.64 se relaciona con mayor mortalidad (OR 2.22, IC95% 0.95-5.21).  Conclusiones:  se observó una relación entre disminución del índice PCR/PCT con aumento de la mortalidad en pacientes con choque séptico, lo que sugiere que podría ser utilizada como herramienta para predicción de mortalidad al ingreso del paciente a terapia intensiva.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  sepsis is defined as a syndrome comprised of pathological and biochemical abnormalities induced by infection, that could cause a systemic inflammatory response that could cause organ dysfunction, known as severe sepsis; such alterations could culminate in septic shock when associated with refractory hypotension, which persists after adequate fluid administration. Direct relationship between C reactive protein (CPR) and procalcitonin (PCT) with mortality is controversial. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between CPR/PCT index (C reactive protein and procalcitonin index) and observed mortality in patients with septic shock.  Material and methods:  in an observational, retrospective study, we included patients that were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) between January 2022 and March 2023 with diagnosis of septic shock. Included variables were age, sex, presence of comorbidities, leucocyte count, serum lactate levels, creatinine, C reactive protein, procalcitonin and with these calculated the CPR/PCT index. Using the &#967;2 test, we calculated the odds ratio of each variable with mortality.  Results:  142 patients were included, with an observed mortality of 20.4%, with the respiratory and urinary tracts as the most predominant infection sites. Average C reactive protein levels were 15.42 (IQR 25.75: 5.55, 23), median procalcitonin levels were 1.86 (IQR 0.44, 17.6), median CPR/PCT index was 3.64 (IQR 0.98, 21.13). An CPR/PCT index less than 3.64 relates to higher mortality levels (OR 2.22, CI 95% 0.95-5.21).  Conclusions:  a relationship of lower levels of the CPR/PCT index and higher mortality rates was described in patients with septic shock, suggesting that we it could be used as a tool to predict mortality at ICU admission.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo:  Introdução:  a sepse é definida como a síndrome composta por anormalidades patológicas e bioquímicas induzidas por um processo infeccioso, que provocam uma resposta inflamatória sistêmica do hospedeiro que causa disfunção orgânica, conhecida como sepse grave; essa alteração pode culminar em choque séptico quando causada por hipotensão refratária à reposição volêmica, que repercute diretamente na perfusão tecidual e provoca elevação do lactato sérico. A relação direta entre a elevação de biomarcadores como a proteína C reativa (PCR) e a procalcitonina (PCT) com a mortalidade é controversa. O objetivo deste estudo é relacionar o índice PCR/PCT com a mortalidade observada em pacientes com choque séptico.  Material e métodos:  realizou-se um estudo observacional e retrospectivo que incluiu pacientes internados na UTI entre janeiro de 2022 e março de 2023 com diagnóstico de choque séptico. Analisaram-se variáveis como idade, sexo, comorbidades, níveis de leucócitos, lactato sérico, creatinina, proteína C reativa, procalcitonina e com base nelas calculou-se a relação PCR/PCT. Aplicamos o modelo estatístico &#967;2 para a relação das variáveis.  Resultados:  incluíram-se no estudo 142 pacientes, nos quais foi observada mortalidade de 20.4%, o foco infeccioso mais predominante foi respiratório e urinário, a de proteína C reativa média foi de 15.42 (intervalo interquartil 5.55, 23), mediana de procalcitonina de 1.86 (0.44, 17.6), relação PCR/PCT mediana em 3.64 (0.98, 21.13). Um índice PCR/PCT inferior a 3,64 está relacionado com maior mortalidade (OR 2.22, IC95% 0.95-5.21).  Conclusões:  observou-se uma relação entre diminuição do índice PCR/PCT com aumento da mortalidade em pacientes com choque séptico, o que sugere que poderia ser utilizado como ferramenta de predição de mortalidade na admissão do paciente na unidade de terapia intensiva.]]></p></abstract>
