</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract This work aims to a better understanding of the production of scientific knowledge in the laboratory by looking at processes of learning and interdisciplinary communication. Knowledge production is a complex process that goes beyond the physical boundaries of any laboratory, however, the specific objective of this work is to observe these processes in socially organized spaces, i.e. public and private research centers. This will allow us to identify the effects arising from the shape and dynamics of organizations, from those most intrinsically linked to any process of learning and interdisciplinary communication. Observations are made in a sample of nanotechnology laboratories located at the Park for Research and Technological Innovation (PIIT) in Monterrey. The research has been designed to show how different types of scientific language and various types of representations embodied in a physical medium are constituted as means of learning and communication between scientists coming from different disciplines.
</abstract>
