Los pinos nativos tienen potencial para plantarse en esta región, pero la selección temprana de genotipos es necesaria para mayor éxito. El objetivo fue evaluar los parámetros genéticos de variables dendrométricas y determinar las mejores familias de Pinus pseudostrobus var. apulcensis para reforestaciones y plantaciones maderables. En un ensayo de progenies de tres años de edad, conformado por 64 familias se evaluó la variación fenotípica y genética, heredabilidad, correlaciones genéticas y fenotípicas de variables de crecimiento, calidad de fuste y supervivencia. Mediante tres estrategias de selección (E1, E2, E3) se identificaron las mejores familias. La variación fenotípica fue de 22.2 a 42.9% y mucho mayor para supervivencia (115.8%). Las variaciones genéticas aditivas fueron moderadas (6.69 a 12.25%). La heredabilidad individual varió de 0.06 a 0.26 y de medias familias de 0.10 a 0.35. Las correlaciones genéticas y fenotípicas entre variables de crecimiento fueron positivas y significativas. La E1 identificó familias con mayor supervivencia, E3 las de mayor crecimiento y E2 equilibró la supervivencia y el crecimiento; dos familias (Chi04 y Jal14) resultaron selectas por las tres estrategias de selección. La variación y el control genético existente en P. pseudostrobus var. apulcensis es adecuado para su mejoramiento. La elección de la estrategia de selección dependerá de si se prioriza la supervivencia en ambientes limitantes o la mejora en caracteres dendrométricos para producción maderable.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The Mixteca region of Oaxaca exhibits high rates of deforestation and soil erosion. Native pines have potential for establishment in this region, but early genotype selection is necessary for greater success. This study aimed to evaluate the genetic parameters of dendrometric traits and identify the best families of Pinus pseudostrobus var. apulcensis for reforestation and timber plantations. In a three-year-old progeny trial comprising 64 families, phenotypic and genetic variation, heritability, and genetic and phenotypic correlations of growth, stem quality, and survival traits were evaluated. Three selection strategies (E1, E2, and E3) were used to identify the best-performing families. Phenotypic variation ranged from 22.2 to 42.9% and was much higher for survival (115.8%). Additive genetic variation was moderate (6.69-12.25%). Individual heritability ranged from 0.06 to 0.26, while family-mean heritability ranged from 0.10 to 0.35. Genetic and phenotypic correlations among growth traits were positive and significant. Strategy E1 identified families with higher survival, E3 selected families with greater growth, and E2 balanced survival and growth; two families (Chi04 and Jal14) were selected by all three strategies. The existing variation and genetic control in Pinus pseudostrobus var. apulcensis are adequate for genetic improvement. The choice of selection strategy will depend on whether priority is given to survival under limiting environments or to the improvement of dendrometric traits for timber production.]]></p></abstract>
