Twenty lambs were slaughtered, and rib sections 9-11 were removed from the left side of the carcass. Images of 9th-11th rib sections were taken and processed using ImageJ software to measure characteristics such as length (Rl) and area (Ra) of sections 9th-11th, depth (LTd), width (LTw) and area (LTa) of the longissimus thoracis muscle. Significant correlations were found between image measurements and characteristics of rib sections 9-11 (0.71 &#8804; r &#8804; 0.84, P &lt; 0.05). The results indicate that digital image analysis of rib sections 9th-11th can be a useful tool for predicting tissue composition in lamb carcasses.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se evaluó la relación entre el análisis de imágenes digital de la sección de costilla 9-11 y su composición tisular en corderos Black Belly. Se sacrificaron 20 corderos, y se extrajo de la canal izquierda la sección 9-11 de la costilla. Se tomaron imágenes de la sección 9-11 de la costilla y las imágenes fueron procesadas mediante el software ImageJ para medir características como la longitud (Rl) y área (Ra) de la sección 9-11, profundidad (LTd), amplitud (LTw) y el área (LTa) del músculo longissimus thoracis. Se encontraron correlaciones significativas entre las mediciones de las imágenes y las características de la sección 9-11 de la costilla (0.71 &#8804; r &#8804; 0.84, P &lt; 0.05). Los resultados indican que el análisis digital de imágenes de la sección de la costilla 9-11 puede ser una herramienta útil para predecir la composición de los tejidos en la canal de corderos.]]></p></abstract>
