El secuestro de carbono en la biomasa aérea de los agrosistemas es una alternativa para mitigar el cambio el cambio climático y la regulación climática. Hay 102 000 ha de palma de aceite (Elaeis guineensis J.) establecidas en el sureste mexicano, las cuales tienen potencial de secuestro de carbono (C). El objetivo del estudio fue estimar el almacenamiento de C en la biomasa aérea de los agrosistemas de palma de aceite de cinco, ocho y 18 años, pastizales y vegetación secundaria ubicados en la Sierra de Tabasco, México. La biomasa aérea total (BAT) en los agrosistemas de palma de aceite (PA) y vegetación secundaria (VS) se calcularon con ecuaciones alométricas, mientras la cantidad de C almacenada se estimó por interpolación. Para estimar el contenido de C en pastizales (PZ), se realizó una interpolación a partir de la producción de materia seca. La BAT más alta en los agrosistemas de palma de aceite se observó en PA18 con 106 Mg ha-1, seguido de PA8 y PA5, con 61 y 48 Mg ha-1, respectivamente. La captura de C se estimó en 60.05, 28.54 y 19.19 Mg C ha-1, respectivamente. La vegetación secundaria registró los valores más altos de BAT y C total, mientras que los pastizales mostraron los valores más bajos. La BAT de los agrosistemas de PA funciona como grandes reservas de C con respecto a los PZ, pero menores cuando se compara con VS.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT. Carbon sequestration in aboveground biomass from agrosys-tems is an alternative for Global Climate Change mitigation and climate regulation. There are 102 000 ha of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) established in the Mexican southeast, these palms have potential for carbon sequestration (C). The aim of this study was to estimate the C storage in the aerial biomass of oil palm agrosystems (from five, eight and 18 years old), pastures and secondary vegetation from the Sierra de Tabasco, Mexico. Total aerial biomass (BAT) in oil palm (PA) and secondary vegetation (VS) agrosystems was calculated using allometric equations, whereas the amount of C stored was estimated by an interpolation. To estimate C contents in pastures, an interpolation was estimted from dry matter production. The highest BAT values of oil palm were observed in PA18 agrosystems with 106 Mg ha-1, followed by PA8 and PA5, with 61 and 48 Mg ha-1, respectively. Capture of C is estimated of 60.05, 28.54 and 19.19 Mg C ha-1 respectively. The VS recorded the highest values of BAT and total C, while the pastures shown the lowest values.
