Existen numerosos simuladores para la inserción de catéteres venosos centrales, aunque muchos de ellos resultan inaccesibles para instituciones educativas.  Objetivo Evaluar la implementación de un modelo de bajo costo para la formación en inserción de catéteres venosos centrales.  Método Se llevó a cabo una intervención educativa cuasi experimental, con médicos residentes del Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca.  Resultados Se capacitó a 33 médicos residentes, de ellos el 54.5% hombres. El 72.7% estaba familiarizado con la técnica correcta de colocación de accesos vasculares ecoguiados, y el 51.5% se sentía confiado para realizar esta tarea antes de la formación. Posteriormente, el 69.7% consideró que el modelo era análogo a la anatomía humana y el 90.9% informó que el dispositivo ofreció una imagen ecográfica clara de las estructuras. Además, el 81.8% valoró el modelo como adecuado para formar a los residentes en la colocación de accesos vasculares ecoguiados. El diseño de simuladores accesibles es crucial en países en desarrollo para aumentar la confianza y acelerar la curva de aprendizaje del personal en formación. Los modelos de bajo costo facilitarían la adquisición de habilidades clínicas, lo que redundaría en una mejora de la atención de calidad para los usuarios de servicios de salud.  Conclusiones Nuestro modelo facilita este aprendizaje sin necesidad de grandes presupuestos ni incremento en el riesgo de complicaciones al realizar este tipo de procedimientos, especialmente para aquellos con escasa o nula experiencia en la colocación de accesos venosos centrales ecoguiados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction Vascular access procedures are an essential competency for medical residents, with ultrasound-guided insertion being an effective and safe method. There are numerous simulators for central venous catheter insertion, although many of them are inaccessible for educational institutions.  Objective To evaluate the implementation of a low-cost model for training in central venous catheter insertion.  Method A quasi-experimental educational intervention was carried out with resident doctors from the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca  Results 33 medical residents were trained, 54.5% of whom were male. 72.7% were familiar with the correct technique for placing ultrasound-guided vascular accesses, and 51.5% felt confident to perform this task before the training. Subsequently, 69.7% considered that the model was analogous to human anatomy and 90.9% reported that the device provided a clear ultrasound image of the structures. In addition, 81.8% valued the model as suitable for training residents in the placement of ultrasound-guided vascular accesses. The design of accessible simulators is crucial in developing countries to increase confidence and speed up the learning curve of the staff in training. Low-cost models would facilitate the acquisition of clinical skills, which would result in an improvement in quality care for health service users.  Conclusions Our model facilitates this learning without the need for large budgets or an increase in the risk of complications when performing this type of procedures, especially for those with little or no experience in the placement of ultrasound-guided central venous accesses.]]></p></abstract>
