Preguntas: ¿Cuáles plantas alimenticias no convencionales se comercializan, en qué volúmenes y de dónde provienen, desagregándolas entre verduras y flores? ¿Cuáles tienen mayor importancia relativa? ¿Cuáles son las preferencias y usos que los compradores les dan, especialmente en la Cuaresma? ¿Cuál es el dominio cultural local de &#8220;flor comestible&#8221; y &#8220;verdura&#8221;? ¿Quiénes venden estos alimentos?  Descripción de los datos: Plantas alimenticias no convencionales comercializadas por vendedores minoristas.  Lugar y fecha del estudio: Mercados de la ciudad de Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo; enero-junio 2023.  Métodos: Se aplicaron cuatro tipos de entrevistas semiestructuradas. Se empleó la prueba de chi-cuadrada para comparar la distribución de frecuencias de verduras y flores comercializadas por quincena, una prueba pareada de Wilcoxon para la comparación de los volúmenes comercializados y una PERMANOVA para la comparación entre los volúmenes de verduras y flores ofertadas. El dominio cultural se analizó mediante el Índice de Smith.  Resultados: Las plantas alimenticias no convencionales se componen de 15 especies de verduras y 11 de flores, principalmente verdolagas, gualumbos, quintoniles, quelite cenizo y epazote. Las familias botánicas más representativas fueron Amaranthaceae, Asparagaceae, Piperaceae y Brassicaceae. Se estimaron 1,325 kg de estas plantas ofertadas por 13 vendedores minoristas. Durante la Cuaresma se ofertó el 50 % del volumen total comercializado.  Conclusiones: Se muestra la necesidad de estudiar la agrobiodiversidad para proveer alimentos silvestres en ciudades de zonas semiáridas y resalta el papel de los comerciantes minoristas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  It is necessary to study the urban socio-ecological systems in terms of agrobiodiversity, spatio-temporal variation, and their places of origin.  Questions:  Which non-conventional food plants are sold, in what volumes, and where do they come from, to separate into vegetables and flowers? Which ones have the greatest relative importance? What are the preferences and uses that buyers assign to them, especially during Lent? What is the local cultural domain of &#8220;edible flower&#8221; and &#8220;vegetables&#8221;? Who sells these food plants?  Data description:  Non-conventional food plants marketed by retailers.  Study site and dates: Markets in the city of Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo; January-June 2023.  Methods:  Four types of semi-structured interviews were applied. The Chi-square test was used to compare the frequency distribution of vegetable and flower species traded per fortnight, the Wilcoxon paired test was used to compare marketed volumes, and PERMANOVA was used to compare the volumes of vegetables and flowers offered. The cultural domain was analyzed using the Smith Index.  Results:  Non-conventional food plants are composed of 15 species of vegetables and 11 species of flowers, mainly purslane, gualumbos, quintoniles, quelite cenizo and epazote. The most representative botanical families were Amaranthaceae, Asparagaceae, Piperaceae and Brassicaceae. An estimated 1,325 kg of these plants were offered by 13 retailers. During Lent, 50 % of the total volume marketed was offered.  Conclusions:  This work shows the need to study agrobiodiversity in order to provide wild foods in cities in semi-arid areas and highlights the role of retailers.]]></p></abstract>
