Objective:  To design and evaluate a planter to distribute seeds in four-row beds.  Methodology:  The planter was created based on the design phases of mechanical engineering. Once built, the seed metering and fertilizer system was evaluated on a test bench. The first one was conducted under three conditions and ten operating speeds with bean and corn. The second one was performed under an operating condition with granulated urea. Subsequently, the planter was evaluated in agricultural soil with both species of seed and four forward speeds, and the horizontal distribution of the plants, planting depth and volume of the dikes formed in the soil were determined.  Results:  On the test bench, it was found that the number of seeds per linear meter of bean and corn was reduced in all three test conditions. In the field, it was observed that the variables evaluated were affected by the operating speed.  Study limitations: The planter was only evaluated with corn grains and bean at a maximum speed of 7.5 km·h-1 on a test bench and at 7 km·h-1 in the field.  Originality: The planter allows seeding four-row beds and, at the same time, forming dikes in the soil to store rainwater.  Conclusions: The planter is a viable option to mechanize the corn and bean planting system in four-row beds, for irrigation and rainfed conditions.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción: Las siembras de frijol y maíz en camas con hileras múltiples, complementadas con captación de agua de lluvia, han permitido incrementar el rendimiento de grano y de materia seca.  Objetivo:  Diseñar y evaluar una sembradora para distribuir semillas a cuatro hileras en camas.  Metodología:  La sembradora se creó con base en las etapas de diseño de la ingeniería mecánica. Una vez construida, el sistema de dosificación de semillas y fertilizante se evaluó en un banco de pruebas. La primera se hizo bajo tres condiciones y diez velocidades de trabajo con frijol y maíz. La segunda se realizó bajo una condición de trabajo con urea granulada. Posteriormente, la sembradora se evaluó en suelo agrícola con ambas especies de semilla y cuatro velocidades de avance, y se determinó la distribución horizontal de las plantas, profundidad de siembra y volumen de las piletas que se forman en el suelo.  Resultados:  En el banco de pruebas se encontró que el número de semillas por metro lineal de frijol y maíz se redujo en las tres condiciones de prueba. En campo, se observó que las variables evaluadas fueron afectadas por la velocidad de trabajo.  Limitaciones del estudio: La sembradora solo se evaluó con granos de maíz y frijol a una velocidad máxima de 7.5 km·h-1 en banco de pruebas y a 7 km·h-1 en campo.  Originalidad: La sembradora permite establecer siembras a cuatro hileras en camas y, al mismo tiempo, formar piletas en el suelo para almacenar agua de lluvia.  Conclusiones: La sembradora es una opción viable para mecanizar el sistema de siembra de maíz y frijol en camas a cuatro hileras, para condiciones de riego y temporal.]]></p></abstract>
