This situation has caused a decrease in their initial capacity, so there is a need to update the bathymetry of the dikes.  Objectives:  Determine the bathymetry of the HMC dikes using an acoustic Doppler current profiler to estimate the volumetric capacity, the flooded area and the maximum depth of each dike.  Materials and methods:  A total of 11 dikes were studied, in which the experimental phase consisted of two stages. First, the coordinates of the water mirror of each dike were collected. Subsequently, the information was introduced into a modeling software by interpolation for the construction of three-dimensional models, which allow estimating the volume and contour lines of the dikes.  Results and discussion:  Dikes 1 and 2 increased their capacity due to recent maintenance and enlargement work. On the other hand, Batamote, Agua fría, Hilda, Mariquita and Cacachila showed a loss of volumetric capacity (of 16.87 % on average), most likely due to the sediment problem.  Conclusions:  The acoustic Doppler current profiler is an extremely useful tool to obtain information about dike depth. However, its use was limited by the presence of aquatic weeds and excessive sediment accumulation. Therefore, only seven dikes could be sounded correctly. It is essential to carry out an effective sediment control program in the most affected dikes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción:  Las capacidades de los diques del canal principal Humaya (CPH) se determinaron en 1966 y actualmente, debido a que son receptores de aguas broncas, presentan diversos grados de acumulación de azolve. Esta situación ha provocado la disminución de su capacidad inicial, por lo que existe la necesidad de actualizar la batimetría de los diques.  Objetivos:  Determinar la batimetría de los diques del CPH utilizando un perfilador acústico de efecto Doppler para estimar la capacidad volumétrica, el área inundada y la profundidad máxima de cada dique.  Materiales y métodos:  Se estudiaron un total de 11 diques, en los cuales la fase experimental consistió de dos etapas. Primero se recopilaron las coordenadas del espejo de agua de cada dique. Posteriormente, la información se introdujo a un software de modelado por interpolación para la construcción de modelos tridimensionales; los cuales permiten estimar el volumen y las curvas de nivel de los diques.  Resultados y discusión:  Los diques 1 y 2 incrementaron su capacidad, esto debido a trabajos de mantenimiento y ampliación realizados recientemente. Por otro lado, Batamote, Agua fría, Hilda, Mariquita y Cacachila presentaron una pérdida de la capacidad volumétrica (de 16.87 % en promedio), muy probablemente debida a la problemática de azolve.  Conclusiones:  El perfilador acústico de efecto Doppler es una herramienta sumamente útil para obtener información de la profundidad de los diques. No obstante, su uso estuvo limitado por la presencia de maleza acuática y la acumulación excesiva de azolve. Por lo anterior, solo siete diques pudieron ser sondeados de manera correcta. Es fundamental realizar un programa efectivo de control de azolve en los diques de mayor afectación.]]></p></abstract>
