Objective  To carry out a bibliometric analysis of the dendrochronological studies developed in Mexico, providing an overview of research trends and identifying areas of opportunity for future development of this science.  Materials and methods  Articles published between 2000 and 2023 were searched in Web of Science, Scopus, Redalyc, and Scielo. The data was analyzed using VOSviewer software.  Results and discussion  A total of 229 articles were found, involving 76 tree species in 25 states; Sinaloa, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, and Guerrero lack dendrochronological research. Pinus hartwegii, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and Abies religiosa are the most explored species. Over the past 13 years, publications have increased exponentially (R2 = 0.837); the majority focus on dendroclimatology (52%), while dendrovolcanology, dendroarchaeology, and dendrohydrology have been minimally explored. Mexican journals published only 26 % of the articles, and the main collaboration networks include the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango.  Conclusions  Few studies were identified on tropical and broadleaf species, despite their dendrochronological potential, and there are seven states where no research has been conducted on this topic. The information generated provides opportunities for developing studies on growth rate analysis, hydroclimatic reconstructions, and ecological research for species conservation.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción  El estudio de los anillos de crecimiento de los árboles ha alcanzado gran relevancia, debido a su creciente aplicación para abordar ciencias como climatología, ecología, hidrología, vulcanología y geomorfología.  Objetivo  Realizar un análisis bibliométrico de los estudios sobre dendrocronología desarrollados en México, para proporcionar una visión general de las tendencias de investigación y áreas de oportunidad de esta ciencia.  Materiales y métodos  Se hizo una búsqueda de artículos en Web of Science, Scopus, Redalyc y Scielo, publicados durante el período 2000-2023. La información se analizó con el programa VOSviewer.  Resutados y discusión  Se encontraron 229 artículos que involucraron 76 especies arbóreas en 25 estados; Sinaloa, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Aguascalientes, Nayarit y Guerrero no cuentan con investigación dendrocronológica. Las especies más exploradas son Pinus hartwegii, Pseudotsuga menziesii y Abies religiosa. En los últimos 13 años, las publicaciones incrementaron exponencialmente (R2 = 0.837); la mayoría tienen un enfoque dendroclimático (52 %), mientras que la dendrovulcanología, dendroarqueología y dendrohidrología han sido poco exploradas. Las revistas mexicanas publicaron solo 26 % de los artículos y las principales redes de colaboración están integradas por el Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias, la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y la Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango.  Conclusiones  Se identificaron pocos estudios con especies tropicales y latifoliadas, a pesar de tener potencial dendrocronológico, y siete estados donde no se ha desarrollado investigación al respecto. La información generada ofrece áreas de oportunidad para el desarrollo de trabajos en análisis de tasas de crecimiento, reconstrucciones hidroclimáticas y estudios ecológicos para la conservación de especies.]]></p></abstract>
