Objective To compare the estimated carbon content through two sampling protocols.  Materials and methods The study was conducted in three ejidos in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, Durango. Data from the Forest Protocol for Mexico (PFM) v3.0 of the Climate Action Reserve (CAR) were used, comprising 1 356 plots with an area of 400 m2 for mature trees (diameter at breast height &#8805; 30 cm) and 100 m2 for small trees (diameter at breast height from 7.5 to 29.9 cm); the sampling intensity was 0.43 %. Additionally, data from 6 615 plots of 1 000 m2 from the Forest Management Inventory (FMI) were used, with a sampling intensity of 4.64 %  Results and discussion Significant differences (P &lt; 0.001) were found in carbon estimates between sampling protocols. On average, 53.56 Mg·ha-1 were estimated with the PFM sampling method, and 43.80 Mg·ha-1 with the FMI method in the three ejidos. The PFM scheme showed a coefficient of variation of 60 %, whereas the FMI presented 49 %. Moreover, the sampling error was 2.99 % for PFM and 0.93 % for FMI.  Conclusions Combining both sampling approaches could optimize inventory costs, while providing robust data suitable for both forest management planning and the development of carbon credit projects.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción La precisión en la cuantificación del carbono es importante para el aseguramiento de la trazabilidad de los proyectos forestales que contribuyen a la reducción de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero.  Objetivo Contrastar el contenido de carbono estimado mediante dos protocolos de muestreo.  Materiales y métodos El estudio se realizó en tres ejidos del municipio de Pueblo Nuevo, Durango. Se usaron datos del Protocolo Forestal para México (PFM) v3.0 de la Reserva de Acción Climática (CAR) provenientes de 1 356 sitios con tamaño de 400 m2 para arbolado adulto (diámetro normal &#8805; 30 cm) y 100 m2 para arbolado pequeño (diámetro normal de 7.5 a 29.9 cm); la intensidad de muestreo fue 0.43 %. También se usaron datos de 6 615 sitios de 1 000 m2 del inventario de manejo forestal (IMF) con intensidad de muestreo de 4.64 %.  Resultados y discusión Se encontraron diferencias significativas (P &lt; 0.001) en la estimación de carbono entre esquemas de muestreo. En promedio, se estimaron 53.56 Mg·ha-1 para el muestreo del PFM y 43.80 Mg·ha-1 para el IMF en los tres ejidos. El esquema del PFM presentó coeficiente de variación de 60 % y el IMF 49 %. Asimismo, el error de muestreo fue 2.99 % para el PFM y 0.93 % para el IMF.  Conclusiones La integración de ambos esquemas de muestreo podría optimizar los costos de inventario. De esta forma, serían igualmente útiles para la elaboración de programas de manejo forestal y para el desarrollo de proyectos de bonos de carbono.]]></p></abstract>
