Urb. is a species with high potential for use in commercial reforestation. Knowledge of nutrient requirements in nursery increases the chances of success in the field by generating plants with adequate morphological and physiological characteristics.  Objective: To identify the key nutrients for O. pyramidale growth in nursery and to characterize the associated visual symptoms of deficiency.  Materials and methods: The design was completely randomized with 10 treatments: one treatment without fertilization, one treatment with complete fertilization (CF), and eight resulting from the CF treatment with suppression of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B and cationic microelements (Mn, Fe, Cu and Zn). The effect of each treatment was determined by height, root collar diameter, aboveground dry biomass, root dry biomass, leaf area and relative growth rate. An analysis of variance and separation of means was performed using the Tukey's test (P &lt; 0.05).  Results and discussion:  Nutrient suppression had significant effects (P &lt; 0.05) on growth after six months in nursery. P was the most limiting element, followed by N. The other treatments showed no significant differences compared to the FC treatment. N suppression caused yellowing, and lack of P caused necrosis with subsequent death and detachment in leaves. B suppression showed no clear deficiency symptoms.  Conclusion: O. pyramidale showed high nutrient uptake efficiency. Only N and P strongly limited its development, which represent the key nutrients for the species.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción: Ochroma pyramidale (Cav. ex Lam.) Urb. es una especie con alto potencial de uso en reforestación comercial. El conocimiento de los requerimientos nutritivos en vivero aumenta la probabilidad de éxito en campo, al generar plantas con características morfológicas y fisiológicas adecuadas.  Objetivo: Identificar los nutrientes clave para el crecimiento de O. pyramidale en vivero y caracterizar los síntomas visuales de deficiencia asociados.  Materiales y métodos: El diseño fue completamente al azar con 10 tratamientos: uno sin fertilización, otro con fertilización completa (FC), y ocho resultantes del tratamiento FC con supresión de N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B y microelementos catiónicos (Mn, Fe, Cu y Zn). El efecto de cada tratamiento se determinó a través de la altura, diámetro en el cuello de la raíz, biomasa seca aérea, biomasa seca radical, área foliar y tasa de crecimiento relativo. Se realizó un análisis de varianza y separación de medias con la prueba de Tukey (P &lt; 0.05).  Resultados y discusión:  La supresión de nutrientes tuvo efectos significativos (P &lt; 0.05) en el crecimiento tras seis meses en vivero. El P fue el elemento más limitante, seguido del N. Los demás tratamientos no presentaron diferencias significativas con respecto al tratamiento FC. En las hojas, la supresión de N provocó coloración amarillenta y la falta de P produjo necrosis con posterior muerte y desprendimiento. La supresión de B no mostró síntomas claros de deficiencia.  Conclusión: O. pyramidale mostró eficiencia alta en la absorción de nutrientes. Únicamente N y P limitaron fuertemente su desarrollo, representando los nutrientes clave para la especie.]]></p></abstract>
