In this context, we present the results of a study carried out to determine the profitability of Nile tilapia production under greenhouse conditions based on the results of a growth bioassay conducted with tilapia under two feeding conditions in which the optimal growth rate was determined according to the quality of the diet. In second instance, the benefit/cost ratio of three feeding strategies with high and low protein diets; 1H:1L (strategy A), 2H:1L (strategy B) and 3H:2L (strategy C) was evaluated to determine annual production costs when producing juveniles of 150 g using 6 continuous production periods of 53.5 days under intensive greenhouse conditions. The growth trial lasted 45 days with Nile tilapia (9.6 g) in which 4 diets were evaluated with P/E levels of 18, 19, 20 and 21 kg/MJ with an apparent satiety feeding model (100 % daily feed intake) and the same diets with a 30 % restriction feeding model (70 % daily feed intake). The results of the experiment indicate that the diet with a P/E ratio of 18 kg/MJ supplied with a 30 % restriction improved feed consumption and the use of protein for growth (p&lt;0.05). The profitability analysis determined that the feeding strategy (3H:2L) obtained the best benefit/cost ratio (1.11) and that this condition, once evaluated for 5 years under scenarios of increases in the cost of feed and in the sale price of the product, allowed obtaining increases in the benefit/cost ratio comparable to the performance of the baseline (initial production condition) in values of 1.2-1.4, however, the net present value under these conditions presents a downward trend. In conclusion, the profitability analysis was positive for the evaluation of the project after five-year period of production in terms of the benefit/cost ratio, besides obtained results varied depending on the quality of the diet and on the conditions of the analyzed productive system. Therefore, the usefulness of this modeling could be feasible to produce juveniles of commercial tilapia lines with an average weight of 150 g.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN El alimento representa entre un 50 % y 70 % de los costos de producción de la acuicultura intensiva. En este contexto, presentamos los resultados de un estudio realizado para determinar la rentabilidad de la producción de juveniles de tilapia nilótica en condiciones de invernadero basándonos en los resultados de un bioensayo de crecimiento conducido con tilapia mediante dos condiciones de alimentación en los cuales de determinó la tasa de crecimiento óptima en función de la calidad de la dieta. En segunda instancia se evaluó la relación beneficio/costo de tres estrategias de alimentación con dietas altas y bajas en proteína; 1H:1L (estrategia A), 2H:1L (estrategia B) y 3H:2L (estrategia C) para determinar los costos de producción anuales al producir juveniles de 150 g utilizando 6 periodos continuos de producción de 53.5 días en condiciones intensivas de invernadero. El bioensayo de crecimiento tuvo una duración de 45 días con tilapia nilótica (9.6 g) en el cual se evaluaron 4 dietas con niveles de P/E de 18, 19, 20 y 21 kg/MJ con un modelo de alimentación a saciedad aparente (alimentación diaria al 100 %) y las mismas dietas con un modelo de alimentación con restricción del 30 % (alimentación diaria al 70 %). Los resultados del experimento indicaron que la dieta con relación P/E de 18 kg/MJ suministrada con una restricción del 30 %, mejoró el consumo de alimento y la utilización de proteína para crecimiento (p&lt;0.05). El análisis de rentabilidad determinó que la estrategia de alimentación (3H:2L) obtuvo la mejor relación beneficio/costo (1.11) y que esta condición al ser evaluada durante un periodo de 5 años bajo escenarios de incrementos en el costo del alimento y en el precio de venta del producto permite obtener incrementos de la relación beneficio/costo comparables al rendimiento de la línea base (condición inicial de producción) en valores de 1.2&#8210;1.4; sin embargo, el valor actual neto bajo estas condiciones presenta una tendencia a la baja. En conclusión el análisis de rentabilidad es positivo para la evaluación del proyecto al final de un periodo de 5 años de producción en términos de la relación beneficio/costo, además, los resultados obtenidos varían en función de la calidad de la dieta y de las condiciones del sistema productivo analizadas. Por lo tanto, la utilidad de este modelado podría ser factible para producir juveniles de líneas comerciales de tilapia con un peso promedio de 150 g.]]></p></abstract>
